Title: How is your school set up?
Post by: Dog Food on May 03, 2010, 07:14:40 PM
Every school seems to be different, after I learned about a few schools in my state that were as different as mine as you can get. So, how does your school work?

We have eight periods on Mondays, each about 45 minutes long. Our schedule fits eight classes (one of them has to be a study hall), so on Mondays we have all of them. Then on Tuesdays-Fridays we have six periods that are an hour long (so each day skips two different classes). Lunch is about 25 minutes long, we have three lunch waves and during which period they are is different (they're usually thrown in after sixth, making that class slightly shorter). We have Winter, February, April, and Summer vacations. Also Midterms in January and Finals in June. School ends the 18th of June and begins September 1st.

That's basically it in a nutshell.

The school year is broken into 2 semesters. Semester 1 is from the first day after labor day, to the second week in January. Semester 2 starts after 1 (derp) and ends at the last quarter of June. There are five periods. 4 are classes, which are 70-75 minutes long and 1 period if for lunch, 40 minutes long. We have Winter, March and Summer vacations.

Monday/Thursday/Friday: Periods 1-8, each 52 minutes long, starts 7:26, 7th period gets out 2:45, lunch is 12:17 to 12:52.
Tuesday: Periods 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, each 1 hour 35 minutes long (except 8th period, which is 50 minutes), starts 7:15, 7th period gets out 2:45, lunch is 12:30 to 1:05.
Wednesday: Periods 2, 4, 6, 8, each 1 hour 35 minutes long (except 8th period, which is 50 minutes), starts 9:05, 6th period gets out 2:45, lunch is 12:30 to 1:05.

Yeah, dumb, I know.

Every day alternates between A and B. Example, today was a B day, so I had a block of Earth Science, tomorrow I'll have Gym rather than the extra period of Science.

Our school is setup like this, everyone has 8 periods a day.  Standard classes start at 8:20 and end at 3:20.  You can sign up for early bird classes that start at 7:30...which automatically gives you 8th hour off, so you get out at 2:31.  This is a normal day.

Then there are block days.  Tuesdays, you only have 1,3,5,7 (I have no clue how early bird works on block days...should ask a friend who has it), wednesdays; 2,4,6,8.  Bear in mind these aren't standard 45 minute classes, but hour and a half classes (which I tend to gripe about...except on wednesdays because then I tend to have 4th and 6th off :3).  Wednesdays are early outs-45 minutes early.  For tuesdays, to make up the extra time (because Wednesdays make the early time perfectly), tuesdays have an extra 5 minutes for 3rd and have ssr during 7th (silent sustained reading for only 20 minutes or so) and a 20 minute resource period at the end of the day from 3:00 to 3:20.

Yeah, complicated, huh?  I won't post the schedule because it'd take up too much space...

1. It's nice to know when 1st period starts, I'm always guestimating and sometimes show up really early to my first class or show up somewhat late(I can't show up too late seeing that I hang out not too far from the class)
2. They don't let us off the buses until either 7:30, or all the busses are there.
