I think it's firefox add-on ad block

I think it blocks simple ads like free forums have...but also gives you the option of blocking ads with a clear tab next to flash objects

so like Myspace ads would not be blocked automatically because they are flash

Ad-block prevents an advertisement from loading.
The advertisements pay based off of how many times it's loaded.

So yeah, it does make them lose some money...
