It was only a matter of time before they did this.
Oh boy, here we gooooo.
And the poopstorm begins...if this is legit. I really don't trust G4 and can't find this at other places at the moment, but hey I'll take anything to beat the poop out of Nathan Drake. Crash Bandicoot and Jak better be in as well.
Retro Spyro is a must.
okay then
Nayrman, quick, you know more about Sony characters. Name all the candidates. You can toss Sonic in just because we know he's going to be brought up for marketing stuff.
crash bandicoot is the only right answer
inb4 20,000,000 Final Fantasy suggestions

Crash and Spyro really depend on who owns them now. I'm more hopeful for Crash, as he's more seen as a Sony character, but both have a possibility. Ratchet and/or Clank are gonna be in no problem. They've had so many games and so many weapons they would really fit into a Smash Bros. like game. Jak and/or Daxter would be cool as well. The Jak series was really good for the PS2, so I wouldn't be surprised if at least Jak got in. Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet could be interesting, but we'll have to see. The problem with this idea is that Sony doesn't own too many properties themselves, so I'm guessing a good chunk of this could be 2nd-ish party in that third parties who just make mostly exclusive stuff... like Snake from MGS maybe? Hm... Anyway, those are my thoughts character wise. I wouldn't be surprised if it tops out at around 20 or so due to lack of a lot of franchises on Sony's end.
The ones mentioned in the article are:
Nathan Drake (blandy mcblanderson of bland adventure movie knock off)
Sly Cooper (cool beans)
Kratos (Aw intercourse yeah)
Fat Princess (a capture the flag like sim from what I can tell. May be ok)
Parappa (an oldie but a goodie)
Sweet Tooth (no clue)
Rico (Killzone)
I'm thinking maybe
Sackboy
Cole from Infamous
Alex from Prototype
Somebody from FF, right? Or Disgaea
A Helghast from Killzone
The chick from Heavenly Sword
The Kid from Shadow of the Collosus (with a Collosus's back as a stage)

Old Snake will definitely be in it.
Snake with:
Liquid Snake costume
Raiden costume
Old Snake costume
Big Boss costume
I would laugh if a Colossus from SotC was included.
Oh god a SotC stage
take my money
If I had to guess...
Altair might find his way in there somehow.
The protagonist of Resistance.
...
More stuff and things...
None of you have mentioned Ratchet and Clank or Cole Mcgrath. lol nintendo fags

I thought each game had a different protagonist.
Reminds me of that crazy DreamMix TV World Fighters game...released for Japan only.

I stand corrected
Anyone feel like compiling a list of Sony First-Party titles? I don't know enough off hand.
The following would be sure fire, I think, because of their game "Playstation Move Heroes"
Jak and Daxter
Sly Cooper
Ratchet and Clank
I suspect this game is going to reach M-ratings so that they include more first-party-looking characters.
Gran Turismo stage is obvious unless they make a transforming car into a character(ugh)
uhhh
Captain Quark?

Entirely possible and probable. I was just speculating based off of the PS3 games that are popular; I've never actually played Resistance.

Based on this list, I can think of a number of good choices, imo.
Top obvious choices are:
Sly Cooper - Hurrrr
Ratchet and/or Clank - Hurrr
Jak and/or Daxter - Hurr
Nathan Drake - Uncharted
Cole MacGrath - Infamous
Spike - Ape Escape
Kratos - God of War
Nariko - Heavenly Sword
Less obvious but great choices are:
Dart - Legend of Dragoon
Rudy, Jack, or Cecilia - Wild Arms (Probably Rudy)
Parappa - Hurrr
Unjammer Lammy - Hurr (Better choice than Parappa due to Guitar)
Gabe Logan - Syphon Filter
Poor choice:
Sackboy. Almost would be like putting a Mii in Smash Bros.
Ico
Would be lulz:
Sweet Tooth - Twisted Metal - Would be SHFP's equivalent to Captain Falcon
with how popular Little Big Planet is, you know its practically inevitable.

That's a fair statement, but I can't think of anything he'd be able to do, unless he was able to magically spawn items.

He'd have that goo blaster thing, or something. I dont know. Not a fan of LBP, I just know that its one of the most popular Sony franchises at the moment.
One idea is that he could be like Kirby. Use a move and copy the foe's neutral special move as well as taking on their appearance. This makes sense because of all the outfits Sackboy gets.
And a stick could have a moveset so there really isn't any point in trying to argue movesets.
At the very least there will be a LBP stage.
Dart and Rudy would be intercourse ing boss
I honestly wouldn't have thought of anyone from LoD.., feels as though they're repeating Ness in Smash Bros
Ok, I honestly didn't know that Siren was Sony owned. Though it couldn't really offer any real characters, there are some possible background to use for stages along with FantaVision (if going with bright stages, DEFINITELY) and maybe Lair(second thought, it does involve dragons....)
sounds like something i don't want to play at all

you probably will
especially if they copy it well
i don't like any sony characters like i like nintendo characters
sure some of the games are fun
but all of the characters are ugly weirdos
waaat
Jak/Daxter and Ratchet/Clank have charm.
Top tier
and that's about it
jak/daxter lost charm after the second game

hey kids theres videos and poop now (look it up im a lazy ass)
good work sony its even more derivative than I expected
It looks ok. A very blatant smash bros. clone but eh, I don't really mind. Gives me a smash game to play by the end of the year at the very least. I just hope Sony has enough franchises that don't suck to really use here.
Also, I can't wait to absolutely beat the poop out of Nathan Drake, because the intercourse er deserves it.
I'm not too upset about it being a Smash clone, mainly because I loved the heck out of the relatively mediocre Digimon Rumble Arena 2. Smash clones aren't as fun as Smash, but they're still fun sometimes.
ANYWAY, apparently this thing will be getting 3rd parties, so I imagine Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy would be two of the first series to sign on. Would be weird for Snake to be in Nintendo AND Sony Smash; if he could only pick one, I'd miss him from Nintendo Smash, but I suppose he'd be more fit for Sony.
I don't see why he can't be in both. Snake was in a smash-ish fighting game before and Nintendo had no problem letting him in.
I'm confident Snake will return to smash purely due to Sakurai still making the series now.
I hadn't read third parties, but then again I tend to gloss over articles. It'd be cool to see a greater mix of characters, and hopefully that means Crash (who isn't owned by Sony anymore) and Spyro can be in the game, as those were the two most well known ones from the PS1 days.
Parappa
Kratos
Fat Princess
Sweet Tooth
Sly Cooper
Colonel Radec
Jak and Daxter better be in this

Holy crap I forgot about them. Insomniac and Naughty Dog's first contributions to Sony... and they've made a new major series every gen since then (Spyro-Ratchet & Clank-Resistance; Crash-Jak-Uncharted). If Spyro and Crash made it in, that would be awesome... too bad neither of them have good games anymore.

There's a difference; most Smash characters haven't had any games period this gen, or at least recently; Spyro and Crash, on the other hand, have both been around multiple times this gen and simply suck every time.
Skylanders is a huge success though. It could happen.

Skylanders felt more like a brand new series that happened to have Spyro in it, like a washed-up comic artist doing an appearance for the opening of a new comic shop.
This game looks like ass, holy poop. The only way to make kills is by using supers which really kills it for me.
also Fat Princess? Why?
fat princess is the best thing about this so far
You guys wanna change the title? Anyways, I got to play a demo, and man, this game is WAY more fun than I thought it would be. It's much more fluid than it looked in the early videos, killing with supers is more fun and natural than you'd think, and it's happily simple in its button-mashing brawling. Square, Triangle, and Circle are all different attack buttons, and each has Smash Bros-style attacks based on the stick's position: neutral, four directional, dash, neutral aerial, and four directional aerial. So, basically, there's no "regular" attack button, no complex dashing and dodging, none of the fancy fisticuffs and swordplay and combo-slaughter that the great Smash players pull off; it's just three Special Attack buttons with around 9 attacks each, resulting in a beautifully chaotic fight where any given character could whip out a huge variety of weapons or melee attacks.
The roster is a tad disappointing, as the 20 on the website are confirmed to be the only characters unless they release DLC, but I'm definitely getting this game when I can.
I've played the demo extensively and got in on the beta at an acquaintance's place.
The game is pretty fun for what it is and the roster is disappointing. I really don't like the core game mechanic. Building up a meter to get KO's doesn't feel like its much fun in the long run. Kratos is overpowered as poop and Fat Princess sucks tits.
Verdict: Smash Bros. is better.
They've announced the first DLC. It will have two characters: Kat, from Gravity Rush, and Emmett Graves, from Starhawk. The character pack will come out early next year, and the DLC will be FREE for the first two weeks that it's out.
DLC announced before the game is even out? Capcom got some really bad press for that, but no one seems to give a poop that Sony is doing it.
Kat is a cool addition, but the Starhawk character isn't exactly interesting. They should really just beg Activision for Spyro and Universal for Crash already.
>dlc
>a game like smash bros
this is the biggest sin i've ever heard in my life
