Starter pokemon, always the same.
1 fire type
1 grass type
1 water type

you always choose a pokemon first, then your rival always gets the one that yours has a waekness to.
just sameole, sameole. Make it something new!

Well here's what I propose:
1. Different types that are also composed of a "circle of weaknesses" namely:
Dark
Phychic
Fighting
2. You still choose first, but the rival's choice is at random.
3. You fight the first battle as normal, send out the pokemon, attacks are all normal types...the usual. But after the match, you see "The games Bill" rush in.
Remember back to the old days, as in red and blue. (I know, it's hard. :P) Does "Bills teleporter" ring a bell? :P
Well the techno guy (whoever it may be) goes to talk to the professor. (probably Pine. :P)
Bills teleporter has been re-discovered, and he needs a test subject.
Well, being curious, both you and your rival volunteer, travel to the next city, and test it.
Needless to say, it works. and in summary, you become your starter pokemon. Then you go around as that pokemon and do the adventure. You can still hold six pokemon, so you basically have 7. You evolve like a pokemon, and can fight in your matches.

there is also one other like you and your rival though...the champ, of course. (first 7 on 7 match ever)
Well I think it's genius, but what do you think?
(I'd always be the dark type. XD
second fav. type)

... You know... That actually sounds really cool. I'd definitely try that game. =O

Good idea, but Dark/Fighting/Psychic fails due to Psychic being unable to touch Dark.

good point... :(
There's another trio type out there...Just let me think of one. :P

"The only possible starter triangles (i.e. three types that are weak to one another in a rock-paper-scissors fashion and the same with resistances in reverse) other than the traditional Fire/Water/Grass are Rock/Fighting/Flying, Fire/Rock/Steel and Grass/Poison/Ground."

No.
Classic rocks
but half yes to types
like have a
Fire-Ice
Water-Fighting Water-Ghost
Grass-Electric

None of those type match ups exist so BAM.

What?  If you're saying that there's no other perfect type-triangles, look back at my last post.
If you're saying that none of the types you mentioned match up, you're still wrong, as Fighting beats Ice.

1. No I'm not saying that
2. Yes fighting pwns ice, but that's the point, look: Fire AND Ice pwn grass, Water pwns Fire and Fighting pwns Ice, and Grass AND Electric pwns Water

So yeah :P

you could have a pokemon that has like red stripes on one side and blue on the other
whatever hand they use performs that type
with both hands combined they perform the ulitmate attack    Fire and Ice

What animal would this Fire/Ice be?  I'm thinkin either a dragon (duh), a bear, or a dog.
