It's actually pretty lame, you just go into the area where your rival is, before you've battled him, and save, turn the game off, and whenever you turn it back on, he'll still be there. (If you leave the area, he'll leave too)
Also, Shujinco, the biggest glitch by far is The Void.

Not to be advertising, but my glitch forum will EVENTUALLY have a bunch of glitches for you to check out.
Right now, I've got The Void, in DP, which is by far the biggest glitch in DP, Neo Glitch City in Yellow, and something else in Link's Awakening.
