Title: Progress Thread
Post by: Macawmoses on March 14, 2010, 08:41:50 PM
This will be the place to discuss the general nuances of HG/SS that don't require their own thread, such as how many Pokemon you've caught, where you currently are in the game, and general impressions.

So an easy topic to start with - which did you choose, and when did you get it?

I chose Soulsilver and got it today, though reserved it about a month ago.

Both. March 14th. Reserved them months ago. Don't remember when.

Once I get it, I will get Chikorita. Been one of my favorite Pokemon since the show.

I had HeartGold pre-ordered at Gamestop since I heard it was available for pre-order, just picked it up today. I picked Cyndaquil <3

Was going to be Totodile, but Cyndaquil is faster.

Pre-ordered SoulSilver days ago with no intentions of doing so. Stayed up all night, left early, waited in a long ass line (People behind me were awesome), got it, came back and crashed.

I chose Cyndaquil. Chikorita is meh and I chose Totodile in the original.

Post by: Spud on March 14, 2010, 10:18:37 PM
Didn't preorder because I was lazy and this town never sells out of games with the exception of Guitar Hero 3 2 years ago.
Got it today and they were overstocked as usual with Pokemon games.
Started with Cyndaquil just like I did with Gold and Crystal, named the rival, then saved and quit. I'd rather save it for when I need something to do. Too many times I have been somewhere and wished I hadn't finished a game on a portable system...

I got Heart Gold.
I started with Totodile.
I caught a Hoothoot and named him Kaepora.
I put him in my PC and transferred him to my Pokewalker.
I caught three Nidoran (M) in the Pokewalker and found 3 items so far.

Continuing the game now.

Post by: Friendly Hostile on March 15, 2010, 01:06:49 PM
Oh right, I chose Totodile, seeing as he's always been my favorite starter of all of them.

Will buy Soul Silver in just a little bit and will pick Totodile because I liked Feraligatr more than the other ones.

I got both HG and SS.  Playing SS first.  Picked Totodile.  Seen 74, caught 25.  At Ecruteak, just beat Rival.

So, is this a semi-chat thread for most things that have to do with HG/SS that don't deserve their own threads?  I wanted to make one of these.  Mack beat me to it D:

Got the game Sunday around 12, and been playing off and on since, 8 hours in and 4 badges as of now; Quilava is Level 30, whereas Pidgeotto is only 21 and Flaffy is 20, the other 3 pokemon I carry with me aren't important~

Fuck, everyone has their Pokémon at higher levels than I.  My party is all at level 21.  Totodile is at level 24 or something.  Flaafy or Pidgey is the second highest.  I'm not evolving my Pokémon yet as I want them to learn the moves at a lower level.  But does this make the stats grow slower?

Damn, you all are way farther than me >_>

I still only have 1 badge, I think Quilava is Lv. 18 or something. No other Pokemon yet, I was going to get a Pidgey, because Pidgeot is awesome, but too weak :(

But the next Pokemon I want on my team that I should have access to soon is probably... Chinchou, was going to be Ralts, but I forgot you can't catch it until you get the Nat Dex D:

Got to the Bug Gym, but I was raped by a lvl 17 Scyther because I'm too underleveled. I'll be grinding for the next few hours.

Also, I just caught a Mareep. Should I add it to my team?

Bugsy's Scyther can be easily handled with Geodude or Onix.  Rock Throw murdered it.

I collect as I go. I try to figure out what Pokemon I want on my team before I start playing. I always have a full team by the E4. Right now I only have my Quilava, a Geodude for Rock Smash and a Bellsprout for Flash.

This time I figure i'll go with Typhlosion, Gardevoir, Gyarados, Dragonite, Lanturn, and Arcanine.

Well, it'll be 5 once I get Espeon. Running Typhlosion, Ampharos, Lanturn, Pidgeotto (god darn useless pokemon until it evolves), Eevee, and a Female Nidoran for Cut/Rock Smash/Strength, and probably Rock Climb.

I've been sticking around in Goldenrod until my Eevees evolve into Umbreon and Espeon. Already have my Espeon. Thank god the route south of Goldenrod has Dittos.

So far my party is as follows: Eevee, Espeon, Pidgeotto, Scizor, Quilava. Exactly what my party was back in the day so far minus the Spinarak/Ariados.  I need a 6th party member though, not sure what I should use. I was thinking about getting a Horsea or a Poliwag since I guess I need a water type. Any suggestions on a 6th party member?

I know how to spread out Pokemon usage and how to do it correctly.

Also it helps if you only use one Pokemon and have others as buffers for when you're in trouble, I went through the first 6 Gyms with only 3~4 pokemon that were usable in battle, but kept my party filled.

I always go through the first couple gyms with just my starter, so it gets really high leveled, then start slowly catching others, but just use them for back-up. I always train so everybody is at LEAST Lv. 50 before the E4, though.

Well right now i'm on my way to Ecruteak, just caught Sudowoodo, brought back memories from G/S when I thought it was some super rare, powerful Pokemon :P

Miltank took one hit from a Focus Energy Critical Hit Double Kick by my level 19 (or was it 20?) Nidoking.
Bitch was nothing.

Current Party, as of beating Whitney and exploring the surroundings a bit.

Totodile, Level 15.
Charmeleon, level 22.
Pikachu, level 18.
Nidoking, level 21.
Ninjask, level 27.
Jirachi, level 8.

Charmeleon was traded in, and admittedly hacked: I lost my good Shiny Charizard to Wifi, so Iceflinger hacked me a fresh level 5 Shiny Charmander with regular stats, I'm leveling it up myself and it's growing normally, so I don't see it as bad... the only thing wrong with it is that when it evolved, it lost it's nickname, and I can't change it back D:
The Pikachu was traded in from PBR. It knows Surf and Volt Tackle, and I taught it Charge Beam.
The Ninjask was traded in from my Pearl. It's Shiny.
I have a Nidoking so early because of a moon stone from the pokewalker.
Jirachi is from the event.

As a note, Pokethlon is intercourse ing addicting. Skill competition sucks hard though.

The fact that you have a Scizor means you traded. Also, it'd suggest you did the same with everyone else.

Objection Overruled. I caught a Scyther, traded it to my girlfriends game where she already has metal coats and she traded it back with a metal coat. All of my pokemon are straight up mine from THIS game. My ID number is 56442, and all of my pokemon have that ID number. From what I understand she got the metal coat on the SS Aqua. She plays pokemon games like a fiend.

In conclusion: Fail, especially considering that not only did I do this back when I was 10 with G/S because I have never been intercourse ing retard, but me getting a Scizor doesn't suggest that I traded all of my other pokemon from another game. I thought Scizor was the poop back in the day and I did the same thing I did then. Got someone to let me have their Metal Coat so I could get one.

Hmm, if that's so, you traded eggs into the game, made them have your ID, did everything else with your girlfriend, and leveled everyone up...

However, leveling up your team in the Olivine area sounds a bit...stressful...

Hmm, if that's so, you traded eggs into the game, made them have your ID, did everything else with your girlfriend, and leveled everyone up...

However, leveling up your team in the Olivine areas sounds a bit...stressful...

Read my edit ^

I didn't trade anything into the intercourse ing game. The only pokemon other than Togepi I even have thats hatched from an Egg right now is my Espeon and that's because I breeded my Eevee with a Ditto so I could have both Espeon and Umbreon. In case you didn't know, you can breed pokemon in HG/SS and Ditto is in the route south of Goldenrod, which is really handy because the Day care is right there.

EDIT: Also, I just ran through the Safari Zone area and the Cianwood routes(both of which have tons of trainers) and all of my pokemon got that high. I don't run away from wild pokemon, ever. Everything dies. It also doesnt help that you add every trainer to your phone book and they either bother you about their Nidoran or Rattata or ask you to battle.

Whoops, I thought Olivine City was the first city when Violet City is the first one. Sorry, my bad. Everything I said is correctly overruled.

Getting ready to challenge Ecruteak gym, Growlithe is Lv. 23 and Lil Flamer (Quilava) is Lv. 31, shouldn't be too hard.

Also, this night thing get on anyone elses nerves? The only time of day I usually have time to play at is the time when everything in-game is all dark, why can't it be like in R/S/E, where time goes by normally, but it stays light out all the time? Or can't it get dark at like... 10:00 or 11:00pm, instead of 7:00?

79 pokemon seen, 40 obtained

Ruby and Sapphire were rushed games if I remember correctly, but since you set the time on the clock in the game anyways, the only thing that is left out is the visual difference between night and day. If it's 10:00PM your Eevee will still evolve into an Umbreon

Hate to break it to you, but you set the time up incorrectly then. The whole reason they even had an in-game clock in that game in the first place was for the pokemon that evolve during night/day. My Eevee in Ruby evolved into an Espeon during the day and my Eevee in Emerald evolved into an Umbreon during the night. Same goes for everyone else I know.
Title: Re: Progress Thread
Post by: on March 20, 2010, 04:23:07 PM
I think the clock got screwed up in the first releases of Sapphire/Ruby so that might have had something to do with it. That's why there was that berry fix thing you could download at Gamestop and also from Emerald I believe. I don't know if it screwed with pokemon evolving like that but it did mess with the berries.

My team right now is
Lucario (shiny) level 76
Feraligatr level 75
Houndoom level 75
Espeon level 75
Electivire level 75
Skarmory level 75
It's made up of Pokemon I've never really used before (except Lucario and Feraligatr but I had a shiny riolu in Platinum and I kept Feraligatr for nostalgia)

I think I'm gunna get my team to level 100 and then take on the battle frontier.

Wait, the ability can change when they evolve? I thought it was always the same, unless you get a Pokemon like Magikarp that always changes from Swift Swim to Intimidate when it evolves into Gyarados.

That's what I thought, but when it evolved it had Flash Fire....so...I guess that isn't always the case because Arcanine can have either Intimidate OR Flash Fire. I don't know why it did this, but its pretty stupid. I tried again and he has intimidate, so I'm good.

When did this happen? D:

Also, beat Jasmine and Chuck (in that order :U). I find Jasmine easier to beat than Chuck. Jasmine was defeated by a lvl 23 Staryu and a lvl 23 Quilava. Chuck would have not been defeated if it not had been for my Ampharos. Charge + ThunderPunch was a OHKO.

That intercourse er.  Dewgong had Sleep Talk as well as Rest.  The guide says Seel has it too, but Seel is easier to take out.  When you talk to him after you beat him (after you get the badge, talk to him again) he says something very fortune cookie-y.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUU-

Clair was a pain in the ASS. No matter how powerful the move, they hardly made a dent in her Pokemon. Even my Lv. 40 Ice Fang Gyarados wasn't much help, and SolarBeam from Typhlosion (With Sunny Day and Choice Specs) didn't do jack. I think the battle lasted over an hour, with about 20 Hyper Potions used >_>

Well intercourse . No trainers in Victory Road, and all the Pokemon are only Lv. 30s. This messes up my training a bit.

So far I have Arcanine: Lv. 50, Gyarados: Lv. 47, and Typhlosion: Lv. 45. How do you think i'll do against the E4? I'm training a Dragonair and Chinchou now. Dragonair is Lv. 30, but leveling it up is slow as intercourse , and Chinchou is Lv. 11, I just hatched it and started training it. I was thinking about waiting for the E4, since Chinchou would be helpful with Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave. But how do you guys think i'll do with just my strongest three?

For Phaze.  Just the E4 levels.  Not revealing types, names, or Pokémon;  Just the levels.  Taken out of the guide, so it should be accurate.  This seems to be the only thing they're accurate with besides maps.
Trainer 1
40, 41 (x3), 42
-
Trainer 2
40, 41, 42, 43, 44
-
Trainer 3
42 (x3),  43, 46
-
Trainer 4
42 (x2), 44, 45, 47
-
Champion (the only one with six Pokémon)
46, 48 (x2), 49 (x2), 50
Edit:  I accidentally had one of the Pokémon 10 levels lower :x

Theres better training up past the waterfall near the safari zone.  Personally, I managed to beat the e4 up to lance no problem with my team of lvl 40s, but thats probably because I had a vague memory of what I was facing and carefully equipped my pokes.  Lance took a couple tries and a choice scarf'd ampharos, as well as a crapload of luck with icefang

Got my full team to level 100 and dropped Feraligator and Houndoom for a Blasoise and Arcanine I had on my platinum team.

Lucario (shiny)
Blastoise
Espeon
Arcanine
Electivire
Skarmory

None of them are EV trained and I didn't really bother with IVs or natures so they're just average level 100s but that's fine by me.

I beat the E4 with everyone ranging from lvl 40 to 46.  Lance and Karen were a bit of a ninny, Lance for having 3 motherintercourse ing Dragonites and me not having a proper counter to Karen's Umbreon and Houndoom, but I got through them with only one pokemon being KO'd in the end.
Title: Re: Progress Thread
Post by: jnfs2014 on April 08, 2010, 08:58:05 AM
The first three are too easy. Karen is harder, but a fighting type will kill. Lance is just flat out hard, but only the Dragonites. Charizard, Gyarados, and Aero can all be taken down by electricity. Dragonites are defeated by moves like Ice Beam, Blizzard, Dragon Claw, Dragon Pulse, or constant hacking away. :P

lol, I destroyed the E4. Not even a challenge. Every one of my Pokemon were at least 10 levels higher than Lance's strongest, and I had special movesets on each of them to take out their Pokemon in 1 hit :3

Now to decide my last Pokemon... Right now it's Arcanine, Dragonite, Gyarados, Lanturn, soon-to-be Gardevoir, and ?

I can't decide between Absol or Lucario. I was thinking Absol since everybody uses Lucario. Or possibly Weavile...

True. As a kid I played Gold only leveling and using my starter, which meant I basically had one nice Pokemon to use, and if he went down...

...on second thought, it may have gone more like this:

"GAH I CAN'T BEAT CLAIR WITH TY, NEW FILE"
"GAH I CAN'T BEAT THE E4 WITH FERALIGATOR, NEW FILE"
"THANKS FOR LVL100 RAICHU AND GYRADOS, FRIEND OF MINE"

God, I was such a vagina-y. Guess that's why I've feel iffy about trading so far.

I got Clair down. It took a few tries, what with her Kingdra being almost 10 levels above my guys. Sacrifices were made, and it was a close battle in the end. I got her Kingdra to red levels and...no Hyper Potion or Full Restore was used by her. That was nice.
