Important Xbox live question

Ok, I'm currently setting up XBOX Live.  Its telling me to set up a memembership, so I go online and check out some stuff.  I see Burger King is offering FREE 48 hours of Xbox Live gold, so I sign up, and they give me the code.  I go back to where I was to set up a memebership.  I click on "redeem code" and I type in the code they gave me.  It works a little, and then it tells me "the following code is not an XBOX live membership code"  What do I do?
