I feel like a very needy student, but at the same time I feel like I'm a lot less needy than most other kids. Depending on the subject this changes. For example, in history I usually need to be helped a lot in order to understand the material, while in a class like Spanish I can pretty much fend for myself. I find that most of the other kids don't apply what we've been taught in the past to what we're doing currently. I do, but that's probably because I have a really good memory for things like that. That's why I don't like taking notes generally, however, a lot of times I end up taking too little notes and not really paying attention because I'm freaking out about what to write. I usually think too long about what notes I can leave out of my writing which causes me to lag behind the rest of the class. I think Socratic-type discussion helps me understand a subject more, although I don't think that there should be a formal preparation for something like that if we were to do it in class. The point is to have our questions answered and come to a fuller understanding of the topic at hand. If we have to prepare for a discussion with detailed written answers to a bunch of questions, why even have the discussion? We already have all of our answers written out, we could just hand that in if we were doing that instead of have a discussion about it. I need to have some sort of organization when I'm being educated because without that organization, I just feel completely lost.
