Title: The Gamer's Greatest Glitches of the Gaming Generation thread!
Post by: Shujinco2 on November 26, 2007, 01:06:27 PM
Here, I will discuss and archive the most well know/most awesomest glitches in the history of gaming!

I will try to update as often as I can, so Check back regularly! :)

NOTE: I may need some help with some of these! Anybody who helps me will get credit for doing so!

First one is today!

Glitch Archive file #1: The "256th level of Pacman" glitch!

For those of you who were fortunate enough (Or dorky enough) to see the 256th level of pacman would know what exactly I was talking about! For those who haven't been lucky enough:

Odd looking, isn't it?

I think this occures because the 256th level of the game exceeds the memory of the mame system! Because of this, the 256th level is TECHNICALLY level 0! Here is why:

Simply, each level is 1 byte! The mame system can only have 255 bytes, and when going to the 256th level (That's 256 bytes) then it rolls over to 0 h, as level 256 is 100 h.

Now this level is unbeatable, as getting all the dots seems to do nothing but give you points; reappearing when you die. (This knowledge is used to get the perfect score.)

This is ALSO seen in Mrs. Pacman, but isn't as random as pacman's 256th level.

Mrs. Pacman level 256:

Oddly, when THIS level is gotten to, there isn't ANYTHING except  Ms. Pacman and the ghosts.

I think this has something to do with the fact that Ms. Pacman has a bow, adding more memory/level, resulting in less memory (And things) in the final level. It might also have something to do with the fruit, but I'm not too sure what it is yet.

Alright, I'll try pulling this off today, but it might not be enough time for me.

Glitch Archive File #2: The A Link to the Past Explorer Glitch

There are MANY ways to pull this one off, but the easiest seems to be the most known as well!

Simply, go to the Dark Wrld and look for level 4. (With Blind the Thief.) Stand here:

(Need Picture)

Now, equip the Magic Mirror, and jump of the Ledge. RIGHT when you jump off, use the Magic Mirror. If Done Correctly, you will warp back to the begining of the level, but still make the noise you normally would when you jump off of ledges. Now, go run into a wall or hit yourself with a bomb. WALAH! The glitch is done!

(Picture of Invisible Link needed)

The reason why you can't see Link anymore is because he is TECHNICALLY underneith the level! The reason why he's underneith the level is because:

You jumped off, but used the Magic Mirror, which means you went into a mode I will call "Jumping Mode." You do Jumping Mode by Jumping of a ledge, bouncing off a wall, or getting hit! Because you jumped off the ledge, but never really jumped to the bottom floor, the glitch stays dormant until you go into Jumping Mode again. And when you go into Jumping Mode again, the game put's you on a lower part of a level that isn't there, and THAT's why your invisible, BECAUSE YOUR UNDER THE FLOOR!

The effects of this glitch are VERY useful! Put quite simply, you can explore EVERY dungeon without EVER leaving the dungeon you are currently in! You can even visit houses and caves! Pretty sweet, huh?

But using the Explorer Glitch leads to many OTHER glitches! Like getting the Ethar Medalian without getting the Master Sword!

(Picture of Ethar Medalian in 2nd dungeon needed)

First off, this one ONLY works on the SNES version and requires an ENTIRELY different method of Explorer Glitch. First off, do this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pZ3bNnLFgY4

Up to the part where you get hit by the Ball and Chain dude, find the 2nd dungeon. (Desert Palace.) Find the part JUST before the boss (The 2nd set of flying tiles) and go into the boss room. (Trust me, you will be able to.) Beat the Lanmolas, and get the heart container. Now, instead of a Pendant falling, THE ETHER MEDALIAN SHOULD FALL INSTEAD!

The reason why you can get into the boss room without the master key is because YOU ALREADY HAVE IT! You got it from Hyrule Temple, and sence you TECHNICALLY didn't leave Hyrule Temple, you still have the Master Keyt and are able to get in! And the reason that the Ether Medalian falls instead of the Pendant is because you are still technically in Hyrule Temple, and since Hyrule Temple doesn't have a Pendant to give you, it changes to something that can be given, THE ETHER MEDALIAN!

Another glitch is the "Tempered Sword before Master Sword" glitch.

using the explorer glitch go to kakariko village and go to the thieves hideout get the power glove, then proceed getting the tempered sword like normal
i think thats how its done its been awhile since i played alttp.
but thieves hideout is a b*** cuz you only have a lvl 1 sword

Nice.

Click on my sig for Neo Glitch Cities. Basically, a way to access a whole new set of glitch cities, AND I used it to get past Pallet without a Pokemon.

I don't have a gameshark, so not having a pokemon is new and cool to me.

you can't really take pictures of the glitch in motion.  it's best viewed in a video.
