Have you been wondering this? I have. It's random Pokemon that's wasting character space. How did it he or she get in?

It was one of the first most popular Pokemon in Japan, that also happened to Pichu to be in Melee too.

QFT, even though I like Jiggly now more than I used to.

Wasn't she better on the 64 game? I never played it so I don't know.

That's why I like her now :)
She's really popular in Anime, same with Pikachu, and Pichu, Mewtwo had his own movie(so does Lucario ;) ).
Jiggly replaced Pit in 64 cause they were having problems with Pit's wings.
Who cares? Jigglypuff is easily one of the more unique characters... sorta.
Pit was originally going to be in the 64 game. However, his wings caused too much trouble, so they replaced him with Jigglypuff, who was popular in Japan at the time. Pit was not in Melee do to time cuts. Other characters like Balloon Fighter and Mach Rider were also wanted by Sakurai to be in Melee, but hey ran into problems such as Mach Rider's inability to get off the bike and Balloon Fighter's balloons getting in the way.

Plus, the female roster was horrendously underrepresented... is that even a word?
Yep. And that is a word if you put a hyphen. Too bad Jill Dozer was confirmed as an AT.
there is debate as to whether she should return or not but i think she should and that mewtwo and pichu be cut from the roster.
I think they need to cut her and Pichu, while buffing Mewtwo.

Jigglypuff is awesome!
She is a superfluous. She is not particularly important to the Pokemon franchise. She only made it because she was popular in Japan.

this.
was also the case with Pichu and Mewtwo (iirc).
Mewtwo has it's own unique moveset. any character with a unique moveset deserves to stay, and I've kinda grown to like Jiggs.
Popularity, my friend.
Although her popularity has decreased recently, many people still like her. I think Jiggs is a staple of the Smash franchise and shouldn't be taken out. She's one of those joke characters and she has her awesome move (Rest anyone?). Jiggs has already been in both Smash games. Why take her out now? Yes, I'm still hoping for Ness. ::)
i think shes a fun character to use but it was only because the show was popular at the time

correct. she had a reoccurring role in the first season of pokemon and a cameo later on
As I already stated, she only made it because of popularity. I think she should be replaced by a more deserving candidate. The only problem is finding a worthy newcomer. Lucario, though likely, is mostly fueled by popularity and a role in the movie and anime, much like Jigglypuff.

I think Jiggs is as worthy as any Pokemon.
Pokemon deserves 5 reps and we have great ones:
1. Pikachu
2. Pokemon Trainer
3. Mewtwo
4. Jiggs
5. Lucario

ehh, I'd rather have pulse & minun than Lucario.
I haven't played a pokemon game in years, but as badass as Lucario sounds, I'd rather have another pikachu variant. :-X
Well, this is all pure conjecture. Mr. Sakurai has probably decided who will be in and finalized the roster, so arguing about it is pointless. The extra months are probably to perfect features such as wifi, debug the game and search for glitches, and to make sure everything functions perfectly.

I definitely wouldn't want another Pikachu clone but that's your opinion and i respect it.
No one ever said Plusle and Minun would be clones. Just because they are similar does not mean they will be clones.
In most of the Pokemon games every pokemon is equal, right? So how do they choose pokemon to be in ssb? They choose popular ones of course!

Okay how about this, I wouldn't want anymore electric rats besides Pikachu in Brawl.
Okay, but we have no electric rats. We have electric mice. Though I guess I agree to an extent.

I wouldn't really like the idea of two electric mice (counting the pair as one) being in it... but I guess Melee already pulled that off.
I guess I'd actually really like that though. Something slightly similar to Ice Climber. Two characters, you play as one, the other is an AI, the two are stronger as a pair, etc.
For whatever reason, I really DON'T want Lucario in. I can't really explain why though.
Yeah, I'd just like characters that I'm at least semi-familiar with, and all of the ones from Pokemon R/B/Y have been exhausted...
I'd be fine if they put in lucario, but I like the concept of the ice climbers, and I don't think that it'd be terrible to have another duo in.
I guess a Plusle+-Minun group would be okay, but if it's essentially Pikachu & Pichu teamed up, I'd rather not. I really wanted Gardevoir as playable, but that's out now... so Lucario is the only one that's popular enough to be considered asides from the electric mice and squirrel. Regardless, Jigglypuff and Mewtwo should definitely return; both are quite unique and have their own cults, though Mewtwo could be stronger being both light and slow. Or speed him up or something, I mean, he's Tier 1, second only to Arceus himself, and tied with all of those gigantical Pokemon.

I wouldn't say so. jiggs is still popular, but not nearly to the extent that it was when the original SSB got released.
meh...obviously sakurai has a crush on jigglypuff...if only he had a crush on lucario...

I read somewhere that he lives in an apartment near the office Brawl is being made and he has a lot of cats. I think he loves his cats for than Jiggly.
