Title: Anyone here good at Chemistry?
Post by: Ivan_the_Great on December 02, 2007, 03:09:45 PM
I have chem homework that I get.
It's been a while and my memory is a bit foggy.
It has to do with molecular compounds.
What I have to do is name the compound, then tell what type it is.
I don't know how to tell what type of bond they are.
Any help?
Here are a few;
Na2SO4
N2O4
SO3 -2
Cl -1
Fe(ClO3)3
It also gives me a list of types of bonds;
A. Binary molecular compound B.Hydrocarbon molecular compound C.Diatomic Molecular compound
D. Binary ionic compound E.Polyatomic ionic compound F. Acid ionic Compound G. Cation H. Anion

Who says I'm being lazy, I'm asking for help.
If I wanted someone to do it for me I would have listed  over 50 formulas you dumbass.

I'm only in 8th grade, I can tell you what the formula means, and that's pretty much it >_>

I understand Hydrocarbons,acids,and diatomics, it's the rest I don't get.

Alright, without being a smartass, can someone tell me the difference between binary molecular compounds and binary ionic compounds?

Binary ionic compounds are a metal and a nonmetal.  Binary molecular compounds are usually two nonmetals.

Na2SO4 is a polyatomic ionic compound because it involves more than two types of atoms and it involves a metal (Na) and a nonmetal (SO4).
