In today's update Sakurai showed us the roster from the demo at the E for all. That must mean there are still some starting characters that haven't been confirmed yet on the site. that Sakurai's trying to hide. I thought 20 characters was more than enough for a start but there's probably a few more before we get into the unlockables aside from Snake and Sonic. Discuss.
I have a theory; Look at the numbers on the two screen shots. 40 and 12. That MAY be the total number. Kirby's not visible, perhalps that it's like a favorites mode thing. I hope I'm correct...

I don't understand. What screenshots are you talking about? I know for a fact that this isn't the game's roster. It's the demo's.
If this is truly the starting roster, I like it.
It gives the game more replay value as to unlock all the characters anyway
in adventure Mode.
And I'm sure it won't take THAT long to get every character honestly.
(Unless it really is 10 hours..................then "Hooo Haaa" thats gonna take a while)
And anyway...... Most people would want to practice 1st before challenging anybody
Online. Other then playing vs. mode against the cpu ...you can get better through Adventure Mode.
So I think it all works out.

Actually, nevermind. I feel like an ass because I have not read the whole update. I was talking about the numbers that appear in the screenshots on the update:

Turns out that's the timer :P

Ohh, that makes sense. I looked back at those screen shots and I was wondering what those numbers meant until now.

But Kirby isnt there, and Kirby is one of the starter characters in SE...

That's the second counter! >:(
I got proof that isn't the real roster!!!!
Look at this pic:
It has the ice climbers in it.
They don't appear on the starter screen.
Which means its fake.
Case Closed. 8)

Yep, that green character also sounds familiar.

But Meta Knight's in the Roster....
how does that mean it isn't the roster? He is is telling us all the starters and newcomers, not the starting roster in the character updates...

But Kirby is bound to be starter and Sonic has already been confirmed an unlockable.
I just made a topic about this but Zelda is not there either :|.

Hey, Sonic IS a starter, why? Because the Sega logo will appear in the introduction.

No he isn't. Why? Because Sakurai said so in his journal.

In his nothing journal?
This is clearly just a demo roster.
"OMg but like people aren't on it and Sonic is gonna start and kirby is not?!?!"
Advertising is a careful business. At the E for all they had this roster for people to test. They placed certain characters only on it because they only wanted people playing those characters. This is like most demos. You do not get to play and see everything and they try to put game selling things in it to persuade possible consumers. It has nothing to do with the make up of the starting roster that will be in at game launch.

Let me comfirm some facts. This isn't the starting roster. All third parties are hidden, Kirby is a starter because he's in the first part of the SSE and King Dedede is most likley a starter because he's in the first event match.
As said before, it's the demo roster. My guess as to why Kirby isn't in it is because they didn't want people to see what Kirby's hats would look like, but I could be wrong. I think that all of the characters shown on the Dojo except for Sonic and Snake are starters, so this is my guess on the starting roster:
Mario
Link
Kirby
Pikachu
Bowser
Samus
DK
Diddy
Trainer
Captain Falcon
Ice Climbers
Zelda
Peach
Yoshi
Metaknight
Dedede
Wario
Ike
Pit
Lucas
This seems to be the most likely to me.

Good, you got Falcon in there. There probably won't be any other starters unless Ness comes back.
