My parents are looking into getting a new TV. Is DLP or LCD the better buy?
The DLP comes with a PS3, by the way.
What does LCD come with?
DLP cuz of the ps3
LCD.
DLP's are a pain in the ass because of the 'rainbow effect', the need to replace bulbs, and most can't be mounted on a wall. Also, the viewing angles aren't that great.
Don't go with DLP simply because of the PS3. Just seriously consider the differences between the two types of TVs.
Ewww PS3. Get the LCD. lol jk
I don't really know the differences but I'd favor the DLP because of the PS3
Screw both. Get a Plasma or CRT.

Why would you want a Plasma or even worse -- a CRT over an LCD?

CRT's do have advantages, despite the dated technology. I would still go with the LCD, you have to Remember the P in DLP, Processing. Processing = Picture Lag.
Go with the LCD, the response time is minimal.

Plasma doesn't reflect light as much. And CRTs can actually display black. CRT HDTVs = win.

And that makes up for poopty viewing angles and the overload of electricity those things use?
Get an LCD.
Picture quality is great (even though plasma is better), you get good views from all angles, and less electricity usage than plasmas.
We have an LCD. Great TV.

Yeah, and the cons outweigh them.

Yes because we can't make TV stands that support CRT's.
Nah jk.
CRT has zero response time, which makes it extremely good for gaming, but they're a bit large, and can't be made as large as LCD or DLP. I think. >_>
LCD can be large, but the response time is a little worse than CRT.
Plasma gets hot, uses buttloads of energy, and has mediocre responce time.
DLP has bleh response time, but they can be huge, which is good if you want a big display.
since DLP comes with a PS3 I'd say thats a better deal mostly because the PS3 makes a great
blu ray player or Linux workstation....and it has a good game or two...sorta.
but in the long run I wouldn't even bother with new tvs until one type of tv becomes the standard.
