Title: Things the Next Sonic Game Needs and Doesn't Need
Post by: ZGDK on December 20, 2007, 07:09:44 AM
DOES

-More pick up and play. Secret Rings was awesome, but don't make me level up Sonic to make him speed up. Moves should be rewards for completing tasks. Also Secret Rings had a little TOO much, make it so I CAN get 100% without my head exploding.

-More classic feel. I want Sonic fighting Eggman and some doomsday weapon, classic Sonic tunes (none of the pop crap)

-KEEP THE WII CONTROLS

DOESN'T

-Human/Hedgehog relationships, what are we teaching kids? That beastality is okay?

-Glitches, Sega needs to get a better debug team.

All Sega cares about now is money and the stupid little kids that fall for their tricks. Look at Galaxy, it's sold more than the godawful XBOX360/PS3 Sonic Next-Gen game ever did. Why? Because Nintendo cares about quality.

I think another game with similar gameplay to Secret Rings would be fine, but get rid of those horrible cutscenes...

-KEEP THE WII CONTROLS
NONONONONONONONONONO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, Wii controls and Sonic just don't go together. Sonic and the Secret Rings may be even worse than Shadow in my opinion because of the control.

If Wii controls are implemented, make them subtle, like in Super Mario Galaxy. Use joystick to move, buttons to jump and attack and whatnot, maybe use pointer for a new/extra feature that doesn't have to be used constantly but is just useful sometimes, and only use motion for possibly one extra attack if at all. Also, minigame things and chao garden may be able to implement a good use of the Wiimote controls.

I'll also add to the list:

DOES
-Chao garden/race/karate/etc. While at it, make multiplayer chao raising.
-multiplayer battle/race
-extra missions
-make it available on Wii. I want to actually be able to play it unlike Sonic 2006.
-multiple characters, and more than just the hedgehogs at that. Have varied characters like the Sonic Adventure games
-unlockable special moves like bounce bracelet, light dash, etc.
-3D cutscenes with voice-over and captions
-selectable voice and text language

DOESN'T
-Guns. Shadow, I'm looking at you.
-rock music and whatnot like the junk in Secret Rings.
-character teams in-game. That means Sonic Heroes.
-some new villain that sucks and probably won't be mentioned again being in place of eggman (like Captain Whiskers or that genie with a weird name)
-self-contradictory storyline. Shadow was full of these with the multiple path system and other games have minor things.
-Amy's underclothing being shown a lot. Seriously, just make the skirt longer.
-moves that you basically NEED being required to unlock. Secret Rings screwed that up.
-lag. I haven't seen much, but still....
-stupid storyboard-design cutscenes

I'd like a classically-styled 2D Sonic platformer with pseudo-3D elements like high-definition character sprites, realistic backgrounds, and things like that.

Somehow, there are ways to screw even something like that up.

I want a Chao MMO. :O

But seriously, Sonic has sucked since Sonic Adventure 2.

QUIT INTRODUCING CHARACTERS SEGA.

TOO MANY

I want Chao gardens again. I haven't bought a Sonic game since Sonic Heroes, so I'm way behind for anything new about Sonic.  :P

But seriously, Sonic has sucked since Sonic Adventure 2.

QUIT INTRODUCING CHARACTERS SEGA.

TOO MANY
Characters introduced in each main-series game (chronological order):
(3) Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic, Super Sonic, Eggman
(1) Sonic 2: Tails
(2) Sonic CD: Amy Rose, Metal Sonic
(1) Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Knuckles
(5) Sonic Adventure: Big, Chaos, Chao, E-102 Gamma, Tikal
(5) Sonic Adventure 2: Shadow, Rouge, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, Maria, GUN and the president
(2) Sonic Advance 2: Cream and Vanilla
(1 or 4) Sonic Heroes: E-123 Omega (and team Chaotix's introduction to the main storyline)
(1) Sonic Battle: Emerl
(1) Sonic Advance 3: Gemerl
(2) Sonic Rush: Blaze and Eggman Nega
(1) Shadow the Hedgehog: Black Doom and the Black Arms
(3) Sonic 2006: Silver, Princess Elise, Mephiles
(2) Sonic Rush Adventure: Marine and Captain Whiskers

Sonic and Knuckles: None
Sonic Advance: None
Sonic Rivals: None

In my opinion, it died down just a little after the big boom of new characters in the Adventure games.

The only decent things you've missed were the Sonic Rush games and maybe Sonic 2006 (which I also haven't played because of inavailability on Wii). Screw Shadow and Secret Rings, they suck.

Sonic 2006 sucks.

I'm thinking about getting the Rush games. And my friend told me about Shadow, and hell no I'm not getting it. I've read some reviews, heard it sucked. I was thinking of getting Secret Rings, but not anymore really. What's Sonic 2006 for? Cause the only next Gen system I have is Wii.

Don't get Sonic and the Secret Rings or Sonic 2006.

They both suck.

It's for everything except Wii. By that, I mean both Xbox 360 and PS3.
What's so bad about Sonic 2006? I haven't played it because I don't have either system but it looks like a Sonic Adventure game with a bit less playable characters and lack of chao to me.

I kind of liked secret rings.
Since you ONLY play as sonic.

But yeah, another good one like adventure 2 would be nice.

Hey, I've noticed something.... intresting...

ever since Yuji Naka left sega, Sonic's games sucked ass.
(I liked sonic Heroes btw, :P)

coincidence? I think NOT! :O

And ever since Ryan Drummond stopped voicing Sonic and they got some 4Kids voice actor to voice him, he sounds like he's 45.

Yuck, Sonic and the Secret Rings is JUST as terrible as Sonic Heroes. And no motion, I hate motion. I think the Sonic games are just fine. Shoot me for saying this, but I like Sonic the Hedgehog on 360/PS3, just not the story. :P

Compared to Secret Rings and Shadow, Heroes was an excellent game.

Note that I said "compared to". The game does suck but nowhere near as much as the other two.

MY OPINION:
Needs:
• Chao World, seriously, it rocked.
• NORMAL CONTROLS! Wii controls sucked major ass, it needs normal controls.

Doesn't Need:
• More characters, we have enough Sonic Team ;).
• Wii Controls, like I said, Wii controls sucked.
