mind explaining to me why?
seriously, I didn't know anyone in the school knows what GIMP is, let alone have the mental capacity and knowledge reserved for technology to know how to operate it
Because it can promote creativity? But unless they have an official looking list of tuts or something, wtf?

Dude, Paint promotes more creativity than Gimp >_<
GIMP is actually pretty well-known by some computer graphics teachers. A few years ago I was going to attend a class on computer graphics, and they said that one of their main specialties was teaching GIMP, for those who weren't blessed with the ability to use torrents.

We have Flash MX on our computers. No clue why, but it's nice to have ^_^
The only problem is that I can't import stuff into MX from Flash 8 Pro from my compy. Dang lack of backwards compatability :P

Just because Gimp doesn't basically force you to doodle, doesn't mean it's less creative.

Yeah, we have no computer graphics teachers. The most our teachers can do is make a free forum.
One thing I really dislike about GIMP is its multi-window interface and rather large toolbox. Seriously, it's better to keep things like the toolbox as child windows like Adobe programs or PaintDotNet do -_-
Does your school have an art class? They may occasionally try digital art.

Ah, they didn't at mine either. This was one of those night-courses you could take at a community college or something. It was still surprising, though, because the class made good use of the term "beginner". But then again, I've yet to meet anybody that calls themself a beginner, but has the dedication to get Photoshop.
As for the free forum, that's pretty surprising. I didn't even know schools could make forums. Not because of lack of proper education (the teachers, I mean, as I've met quite a handful of dumb computer-technology teachers), but because of some law put in place. But then again, I'm not that educated with the law.

Paint.net is so much better than GIMP. Too bad not very many people know about it.

yes, but they wouldn't try that. seriously, these teachers are either too old to do that or couldn't figure out how. I've seen first hand too many times.

I don't use GIMP for editing.

The fact that it requires the Microsoft .NET framework probably is part of its loss of popularity. It IS my favorite image manipulation program though ::)

There is GIMPShop, but I've heard it doesn't work too well on Windows. Nice app otherwise.

What law would there be? It's not like COPPA is going to harm you.

Actually, I know someone who used to use Paint.net all the time, before he got Photoshop. Compared to his work, and to the work of those who had been using GIMP for months longer, and compared to my Photoshop work (which was, at the time, about a year or so of expierience), pretty good. Most of the sigs I've seen made in GIMP look generally the same. I don't know why, but they just do.
I also like Paint.net because of it's inability to use brushes (at least when I was using it). To be honest, I think using brushes is a pretty bad habit. I started off using brushes, and there are many times when I'm making a sig, and I get really frustrated because I can't think of anything to do besides get more brushes to use. On the other hand, looking back at the guy I knew who started out using Paint.net, his sigs are much better than mine, mainly because he very rarely uses brushes, and when he does, they're not completely over-used. If at all, he'll only use them to add a little effect to a corner, or to the text.
Paint.net also lets you preview radial blurs, which I think is something Adobe should really look into fixing.
QuoteThe fact that it requires the Microsoft .NET framework probably is part of its loss of popularity.
Yeah, the installation for that can get a little annoying.

GIMPshop was mainly developed for Linux. Most people would just suggest torrenting and getting a serial for Photoshop for Windows and Mac users.

I don't know. Maybe I just haven't thought about it all that much.

My teacher made a myspace for all her classes put together and stuff. And some school official guy told her she could get hired if she kept it up. I don't know if she could actually get fired, but it's probably true seeing how the how ninnyy the school board can get in my area. So I'm thinking its along the lines of that somewhere. :p

It's the ads, most likely. My teacher said he won't assign something else on his forums until the school removes the ads.
