I have about $75 worth of Amazon gift certificates to spend. I'm considering the following:
~Buying a poopload of SNES/Genesis games
~Buying a Sega Dreamcast + a couple games for it
~Buying a Sega Saturn
~Buying a Sega Master System
~Buying a PS1 + a couple games for it
~Buying a NES
Also, if it turns out that I didn't get Ikaruga for Christmas like I'm hoping, that's a possibility as well, since it is quite a pricey game.
There's also some anime dvd boxsets that I feel I should have...
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BUY HELP ME OH GOD
also i don't have any current generation consoles but i'm buying a Wii with separate money anyway...so don't worry about that

I would go with the first option.

I would go with the first option.
I already have a good SNES collection though, so it'd actually probably be mostly Genesis games.

I never owned a Genesis, so I don't know what it's like.

Inferior to the SNES, but still a good, solid system. It has some serious sound issues that led to sub-par sound effects and music in almost every Genesis game, not to mention it didn't have as much good third-party support. It's got a good number of gems that make it one of the more worthwhile classic consoles, though.
I'VE DECIDED I'LL PROBABLY GET A SEGA SATURN
but some more input on this pressing issue would still be nice

Trying to become a good collector, yes. I recently decided to go on a mission to get every console/handheld I can, particularly the Sega and Nintendo ones.
The Saturn's list of 2d shooters looks mighty delicious.

problem: shipping costs for individual items multiply very, very fast
it wouldn't actually be that many games ;-;

then go for the saturn.
Well.. meticulously pick out the best of the Saturn systems you can find I say.
I'm actually going for variety at the same time; i.e., special editions/differently-colored..
Right now I'm getting 1-2 more Dreamcasts.. (translucent black and sports editions already ordered.. still need standard color) and then a bunch of GameBoy Pockets.. and then maybe some N64 funtastic-colored systems (grape, strawberry, smoke, etc.).
I'm actually the guy who bought the N64 2000 controller from eBay.. may have seen the blog/article on Go Nintendo about it.

Hey, thanks!
I'm just starting out still, but I'm dreaming of big, big things.
Got my matching silver PS2 and silver PSP, Jet Black GCN (with matching GameBoy Player), platinum WaveBird controller, regular Wii, a SNES that doesn't look too clean with Super GameBoy (and Kirby SuperStar: 8 games in 1 for SNES), a standard N64, Cobalt Blue GBA SP, and a Black DS Lite.. though I've had two Polar White DS Lites and one Platinum/Silver DS Phat... and an alright amount of games spanning the systems mentioned.
Just ordered a Spice-colored GCN controller.. looking for the Spice-colored GCN atm.

Wow. And I'm only aiming for at least 1 of every console/handheld. You're a lot more serious about this than I am.
I'd say that if you ever want to sell one of your consoles, I'd take it, but I know that you're probably not the kind of person to ever give up a game or console once you have it.

my hat goes off to you.
this is a true video game collector here, so what else do you dream of acquiring?

Well, there's collecting one of every system/handheld, multiple if possible (and of different varieties if possible as well) and collecting video-game related items such as the Phantom Hourglass Stylus, the Japan-only Biohazard aluminum dvd case/box, and items of that sort.. as well as accessories such as the chainsaw controller, and more.
I also have Pokemon Box. ^_^
Along with most of the Pokemon games.. the main ones.

I still only have a modest gaming collection.. anything I have you could easily get yourself anyways. This might sound selfish, but as a collector/gamer, I'd only sell something if I had means of getting another one of it or if it meant giving up one rarity for another.. but even then, it's far from a done deal.

Get the Dreamcast. When I bought mine 2 years ago, I went to my GameStop right down the road and found like 7 games just lying there for 10 dollars.
Plus, it's a great system.

blargh not enough exclusives
It's still on my to-get list though, so it's not like I'll never get one.
Buying a poopload of SNES/Genesis games, like SMRPG, DKC 1-3, Super Mario All Stars, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, Killer Instinct...
