Title: Gimp transperency help(more detail inside)

I'm trying to make and animation using sprites. I need to make the sprite sheet with a transperent background but whenever I hit ctrl+x to do that it covers the whole image instead of just the background. can you help me out plz.

Click the wand, select the parts you want to be transparent, then hit ctrl-x.

so i hit the fuzzy select tool click the sprie sheet and then press ctrl-x

its not my birthday but ill take it anyways and i can't get that techniuqe to work i press it once and it shuts off the fuzzy effect
