It's that time again!
Anyways todays subject is Cat.
This is a bit more involved then my last entry because I've known her longer then Genius :P
Cat joined up when the forums for Nintendo was just starting with HTS. She was soon selected with a group of three users to become Mods on that forum. It was her and those two that developed what was to become the KoH role at Nsider. After it's short life HTS closed and Nsider was formed with Cat as the first KoH.
She has always been known to be a GREAT user and VERY helpful. She LOVED Nsider and all that it stood for. The closure of the forum hit her harder then you could imagine. No she didn't know a head of time that it was happening, but she did have suspicion. This let her to become a bit distanced over the last few months of the forums life. That reason and one other which I'll get into in a moment.
Along with being a member of Nsider, Cat was a member of smaller communities such as Outsider and NsiderRevivalGroup (NRG) and a few others. She is a passionate and caring person.
Now she is happily married for 2 years since this past August. Plans to have a family in about a 1 year and 1/2.
So what about her other reason for drawing back from Nsider???
As of early this year because of certain situation Cat applied for a job with Lithium Technologies. She got that job full time using Nsider as a reference on her resume. Being that she had contact with one of the Lithium techs on Nsider she was interviewed and highered. they knew of her involvement with Nsider and was fine with it. Cat had to for her own personal reasons so that there would never be an issue draw back herself from the active role she once played.
NoA_Andy was never aware of the fact that Cat was working for Lithium and for good reason. Nintendo wasn't going to be getting any 'free' services. Apparently Nsider didn't even have the latest that Lithium offered. but I don't have details on that.
Cat did say she would be happy to help out on NS2, but we figured I would give her a brake from all her moderating duties since she has to do that on a regular basis for work.
Cat you have always been a GREAT KoH but above all a GREAT friend to me. She has helped me with sooooooooooo many personal issues over the past year. What a loving person and I know you'll be a EXCELLENT MOM ^_^
I LOVE YOU CAT *hugs*
Here are the words from Cat herself:
QuoteI do have a couple of things to change/add here, as well, I know my history better than anyone else, probably. ;)
I've been around Nsider incarnates since 1995. I've known Andy since he started as an online counselor at Camp Hyrule back n the '90s. I was chosen to be the first moderator on HTS because I had a *really* long standing history of being a trustworthy user. Mukusix was picked for this very same reason just about a week after me. Mukusix, Imawario, and myself had a long history of being given administration powers in Nsider's old chats back when we used a different software.
About the Lithium thing, I believe I did say I haven't told many people for a reason, but it's not that big of a deal if people know now, since Nsider isn't around. ;) If it ever came up, I would have told Andy, but I didn't want to add any stress on him.
This is definitely not the first time I've seen a Nintendo community close, so it didn't really hit me near as hard as it did a lot of those who considered Nsider their first true home. All but one of my favorite NOAs left many years ago, so I always knew what it felt like to those users who "lost NOA_Rushmore" or "lost NOA_Mysterious", the two most beloved NOAs of HTS and Nsider respectively.
I've actually been married since August of 2005, which means my two year anniversary passed not too long ago. :) Some of you may have seen his name on the Sage list, as he was #1CATFAN. No, *I* did not elect to make him Sage. He actually was one of the ones that won the only contest that gave people the Sage rank a couple of years ago. He didn't visit much, but he did sign up because he knew Nsider was something I cared about.
The closure of Nsider didn't really tear me apart... it's just been difficult to deal with some of the outside communities because I see history repeating itself all over the place. During the last major closure, people instantly became bitter at the NOAs, at NOA itself, at Nintendo. I watched good friends of mine change and become fairly bitter human beings... and part of me (along with part of another good friend) is slightly afraid to see it again.
The true thing that has made the transition difficult is the bitterness toward the one person who was blamed for all of the downfalls of Nsider, though he was just always the bearer of bad news. NOA_Andy was really, in my opinion, the only true advocate for our Nsider community within NOA. Seeing all the hatred and bitterness after Nsider's close.. that's what hurt me. Seeing people blame Andy for Nsider's closure seemed so very very unfair. Nobody will ever know how much work Andy put into Nsider, and I always hated the fact that he never did get the true respect he deserved.
Akemi is totally right, though, after being a moderator for over 4 years, the instant closure of something you had dedicated a lot of time and energy into is difficult to handle. I've found myself spending a lot of time having conversations with people about the past, whether it be recent, or ancient. Most of the former KOH, myself included, aren't interested in being completely rule focused anymore. We want to be able to come here when we feel like it and chat with users just as we would have before being a moderator. I personally like to have to be able to get away from the moderating side of communities, and just let loose. It's a breath of fresh air.
If there's one thing I have found, it's that I'm much less exposed to Nintendo related news than I once was. Catfan told me a couple of days ago "Don't worry, I'm ordering those Wii Remote Jackets at midnight", and I gave him a "What in the world are you talking about?" look. Before Nsider closed, I would have known EXACTLY what he was talking about. Instead, I found the news out for myself a day or two later because of a message on my Wii.
Because of my incredibly long history with Nsider (I've been there since the start, pretty much), I will join up if they create a new community in the future. I'll always be there... even if I just lurk. They may never create a new community, but I'll always keep an eye out for it, because I'm always curious to see what changes from one community to the next. I know that I will not be the only one to do so, either. It's not that we cannot let go, it's that we enjoy seeing what each "generation" of Nintendo fans shape up to be.
And while a year and a half is my proposed time to "start a family", it may not end up that way. A lot hinges on when Catfan finishes his doctorate degree. There's really no set time frame for that, so it may end up getting pushed back a bit. We'll see. ;)
And aww... Akemi, I'm glad you have considered me such a good friend. :) I know we've had a lot of really deep conversations, and I'm glad if I was able to help you in any way.
and.. like always, my post has become incredibly long and I'm sure next to no one will read it. ;)
Cat is awesome. Her anniversary is the same day as my birthday. ^_^
Every time I see "THAT" I think "Oooh she did me this time!"

That's what I thought. Maybe it was *HEN* :-\
I'm a man of quiet dignity, there shall be no info on me. But darn, look at all of that typing! You'd REALLY have to know her for that...
I have never had the chance to meet Cat. :(
This was a great read, good job Andrea. ^_^
I am surprised no one has tried one of these on me :P I've modded almost as much as Cat, as this point! I've practically become a herald of change XD Something changes, then someone makes a forum and I mod it :P

XD It's a long story. SFL, not everything is about how many folks you talked to while you did what you did. It's the fact that I was affected in the way that I was that has made things so funny. And everyone loves a good story
