Title: Very Important Comp. Help!
Post by: NDS on January 02, 2008, 04:41:59 PM
My computer randomly shut off, and now it won't start up successfully! It'll start, and CHKTSK does a disk check, restarts, and then I'll get an error saying the registry can't be read, written, and/or flushed out because it's corrupt...

I pray you guys will take the time to help me because I need your knowledge to save my computer! :(

I'm on my Wii, by the way. Thank you very much for your time; I appreciate it greatly.

when you are turning on you computer mash the F8 button (before Windows boots up) and go into safe mode....do a virus scan or do something to that affect but going into safe mode will prevent it from happening if it is a virus.....

It's normal, just don't press anything while it's doing the wall, and the OS should pop up within a few minutes.

Safe mode takes a while to boot up, sometimes. I would do various virus and spyware scans first, and think about using a registry scanner/cleaner as well. You can also still use the internet in safe mode, but only if you choose Safe Mode with Networking, which might actually only work if you are connected via an ethernet cable, and not wirelessly, but if you are connected wirelessly, it may still work anyway.

If safe mode never boots up, try starting Windows by choosing "Last Known Good Configuration", or something to that effect.

If all else fails, find your recovery disc, and tell the computer to boot from CD. You might end up having to run a repair installation. Doesn't take too long, and as long as you know what you are doing, you won't lose any of your files, either.

Thank you for your reply.

But the thing is, I can't even get up to the log-in screen to use my computer. It doesn't go past the part where it loads windows. :( I actually finished the safe mode thing but my computer just does the same thing; load windows, and get a black screen where the log-in screen is supposes to be, then restart. :( Any more suggestions?

I also got an error message telling me the registry is screwed up. :(

Sounds like you'll need to fix your registry, do a chkdsk in safe mode, and see if it can fix it from there. If not, you might need to try to download a registry fixer tool...if you can connect to the internet.
