Rap vet MC Hammer is launching a website called DanceJam.com that hopes to give Youtube a run for the money in the online dance video world.

The man who made the phrase "You Can't Touch This" famous (hey, does anyone even remember that phrase?) is scheduled to launch the site later this month, which will stage head-to-head competitions where contestants submit videos that will be judged by viewers ala Dancing With The Stars. The site also will provide demonstrations and information about a wide variety of dances.

Hammer (a.k.a. Stanley Burrell) is co-founder and chief strategy officer for the site, and managed to convince Silicon Valley investor Ron Conway provided DanceJam with $1 Million in startup funds.

"I expect [Hammer] to integrate all his knowledge into this website," Conway said recently. "He is the lightning rod for this whole thing."

So who the hell potentially cares about sucvh a site? Welll...er, YOU! The most popular video in Youtube history is the "Evolution of Dance," so someone is watching this crap!

"There is no high-tech lingo or business strategy that you can talk that is above my head," Hammer said in an interview. "I breathe this stuff."

Although he hasn't had a hit since the 1990's, MC Hammer is back. Topping the charts is not his focus this time however, making a splash online with the soon to launch DanceJam.com is his new goal.

Scheduled to launch in mid-January, Hammer aka Stanley Burrell serves as co-founder and chief strategy officer for the new site that hopes to give Youtube a run for the money in the online dance video world, according to the Associated Press.

Longtime Silicon Valley investor Ron Conway, who provided DanceJam with $1 Million in startup funds says it is Hammer's technological savvy that convinced him to jump on board.

"I expect him to integrate all his knowledge into this Web site," said Conway, who first met Hammer at a baseball game seven years ago and has been his technology tutor ever since. "He is the lightning rod for this whole thing."

"There is no high-tech lingo or business strategy that you can talk that is above my head," Hammer said in a recent interview. "I breathe this stuff."

With the popularity of shows like Dancing With The Stars rocketing, DanceJam will stage head-to-head competitions where contestants submit videos that will be judged by viewers. The site also will provide demonstrations and information about a wide variety of dances.

Not everyone is convinced Hammer has another hit on his hands though. James Mcquivey, a media analyst with Forrester Research doubts the site will be able to draw a considerable aount of people away from Youtube.

"When people are looking for any video, whether it be about skateboarding, dancing or a science project, they don't stop to think about where's the best place to find it. They just start off by going to YouTube," McQuivey said.

The most popular video in Youtube history is the "Evolution of Dance."

Isn't the net underage?
It was invented in the 70s technically, but it REALLY took off and became popular when AOL launched in the mid 90s.
