Title: Donkey Kong 64 flash drive
Post by: Tsu on January 04, 2008, 04:23:19 PM
I want to make my DK64 catridge into a flash-drive holder, for some wow-factor. I have an ugly green flash-drive, by the way. Anyone know how to open up an N64 cart without damaging it, or hitting it really hard?

I don't see how you're gonna make it without hurting the game or adding something onto it... :-\

Do you know how to do it?

You need a special screw bit.

Just search "nintendo screw bit" on Google.

Well, the game doesn't work anymore, so I'm going to put it to use.

I can't just pry it open with something?

It is easier to make you own. All you need is an empty BIC pen, and a candle...

Not if you don't want to break it.

Mind telling me how to do that specifically?

yeah. All you need is to light the candle, empty the pen, and melt the end of it thenpress and hold to the screw till it tries. Now twist!

It has to be a certain BIC pen, however. Not all will work. It was like three nears nearly since I done it but I believe it was the solid white Bics that were hexagonal in shape. When they melt and cool back down they become hard as glass nearly. Any other pen wouldn't get that hard and just either mold odd or break after it became set. The ones recommended does work rather well but make sure its moved around as little as possible as its cooling, or you will just make it loose and strip out either the top of the screw or pen itself.

The only problem I encountered with this was that the screws would sometimes get stuck in the pen as it was cooling down, but one thats properly heated and molded will last you for a while, surprisingly. As crazy as it sounds theres an art to it.

I'm trying with a really, really small flathead screw driver
