WHY DO PEOPLE USE CORRECT GRAMMAR AND SPELLING?
All cartridges prior to the DS used batteries. It was because that was simply the way games were designed back then. Technology wasn't as good, and there wasn't a known way around it. DS cards do not have batteries, and are actually considered "cards" instead of cartridges. Cartridges have batteries for saving progress.
Also, some games had external battery slots for a rumble feature.

i was talkin bout like on the front of a game where it says the title, an u put a battery in, but u can play it wit out it, an i didnt feel no rumble... AN HEY N64 WAS GOOOD TECHOLGY
Have you by chance been living under a rock for the past decade? You're talking about Gameboy Color and N64. No offense...but this topic is laughable. It was fun technology during it's time...but there is much better technology now.
Anyway, the rumble feature is the only thing I ever recall using an external battery for.
