Title: Can you really get exercise while playing video games?
Post by: Nintendo Guru on September 27, 2007, 08:03:41 PM
As criticism against video games increases and people claim that video games are teaching violence to children, Nintendo takes a stand.  With the Nintendo Wii, people of all ages are enjoying the ability to get active from the comfort of their own homes.

The Wii uses a motion sensing controller in its games, and this encourages players to get more active in their video games.  This form of gaming has been increasing physical fitness and improving physical health for the multitude of people who enjoy playing video games.  In addition, the Nintendo Wii has been attracting new gamers with the appeal of playing fun games that let you get active in the game.  With so many people enjoying the physical exercise provided by the Nintendo Wii, it has become evident that the Wii is helping to improve the physical health of people everywhere.

And while the Wii's main controller encourages arm exercise and movement, the Wii has also developed a new Wii Balance Board controller which people can use to exercise their leg muscles as well.  It is evident that the Wii's new gaming technology is affecting the entire world.  With so many kids playing video games nowadays, the physical exercise that the Nintendo Wii provides is really helping to get kids pretty active in staying physically fit, whether they realize it or not.

By the way this is actually just a current events article that I wrote up for school, but I thought it was cool that things I do for school actually can correspnd to my hobbies and interests.  :O  By the way, I don't even think my teacher is going to look at it, so I didn't spend too much time on it.  :P

Eh, not really... you can control just about anything in the Wii with short, wrist movements.

I remember the power pad. We used to cheat using it... but it still required a lot of energy to use, even cheating. I wonder if DDR pads give you a lot of exercise.

We actually play DDR in Physical Fitness sometimes... but only as a warm up.

I know, but that is still more than just pressing buttons.  Even though you can just flick your wrist for most actions, I usually find it more enjoyable to do full-body movements to go with the hand movements.  There is actually a lot motion envolved.

Meh... doing such elaborate movements usually just sends the cursor flying off the screen.

I find that the boxing in Wii sports can get you some good aerobic exercise if you play for a long time, especially with a friend.

DDR is a good example of fitness video games. Some people have lost a ton of weight playing DDR and similar games.

DDR is on the Wii now, so the Wii is well on its way to becoming the first "fitness" console.

Would have to play the game non-stop with out eating for about a week or two to make a real weight loss.
