sucralose is an artificial sweetener. In the European Union, it is also known under the E number (additive code) E955. Sucralose is sold under the trade name Splenda. Sucralose is approximately 600 times sweeter than sucrose (table sugar),[2] twice as sweet as saccharin, and four times as sweet as aspartame. Unlike aspartame, it is stable under heat also cocks and over a broad range of pH conditions and can be used in baking or in products that require a longer shelf life. Since its introduction in 1999, sucralose has overtaken Equal in the $1.5 billion artificial sweetener market, holding a 62% market share.[3] According to market research firm IRI, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, Splenda sold $212 million in 2006 in the U.S. while Equal sold $48.7 million.[4]

Splenda makes my throat feel weird after I drink something with it in the drink.  I prefer table sugar.

What is it? :-X

Made from: They take the molecule of natural table sugar (sucrose) and use various organic reactions to change it into sucralose. We interpret molecules that are shaped certain ways as sweet, others as sour, and so on and so forth. Sucralose activates taste and scent receptors in a similar way to sugar, but it isn't taken up by the body and transferred into calories like ordinary sugar is.

Your o-chem lesson for the day. Tough stuff but fun as hell.

Basically, it's genetically altered sugar so your body doesn't think it's sugar, but it's still sweet.  The problem is, your body doesn't think it's sugar.   Your body doesn't know how to handle it.
