My mom's boyfriend just bought GHIII for his kids yesterday, and the guitar's already ruined. Yes, they ruined the guitar within a day. How, you ask?
His 6-year old sat on it and broke the neck in half. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU SIT ON IT, AND HOW FAT DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO SNAP IT IN HALF?!
I'm not talking about it detaching, I mean the thing physically snapped.
Also, ITT why you shouldn't give little kids Guitar Hero.
So many things...wrong with that...too many...I'd take a belt and show 'em the consequences.
Also, he's 6. He didn't know, did he?

Some six year olds (http://youtube.com/watch?v=kKYAhVSBxsQ) just really like to play the games the big kids play.
My cousin's half-brother is 4, and he wanted to be a little rock star and smash their controller on the ground...
It still works fine, but the whammy bar is extremely loose.
Children under 11 shouldent play just for that reason! ;D that sucks tho man

I'd say, as long as you're in Elementary School, you're fine.
However, if the kid has temper problems, you may wanna watch them...
Kids these days have no respect for things.
