I might buy XP and dual boot, it cant come pre-loaded with it, its currently $1609 before my dad gets discounts for it, what should I upgrade?

You should upgrade the integrated sound to a Creative X-Fi card, add a media reader, and maybe see if you can get an 8800GT for the video card.

$50 extra for the 8800 X-fi is $100 extra. It comes with Media Center.

Well...yes and no in terms of gratis. Red Hat Enterprise Linux isn't gratis, but it's the exact same thing as Fedora minus Red Hat's artwork and enterprise support.

A majority are also libre (as long as you aren't crazy like rms), although some aren't, like Linspire/Freespire.
