Humans just vanished. Whether it was a plague or a mass evacuation of the planet, animals would quickly take over. Cities would slowly crumble in the darkness, thousands of protected species would go extinct, and houses around the world would be shelter for the remaining animals.
Of course, this is set in modern times, so maybe the decay won't happen as fast in the future.
This is on the History Channel, BTW.

Too bad, that won't happen. On once I build my galactic empire, I will move the inhabitants of earth to my new planet. I will deplete the atmosphere on Earth so It can be used to collect solar energy.
