what is the difference of a spike and a meteor smash?

A meteor smash  is a smash that sends people down, and spikes send people down.

you can meteor cancel a meteor smash, but you can't meteor cancel a spike.

Don't listen to these guys.  An example of a meteor smash would be Young Link's down A move while he's in the air.

Ssbmfan is right. And, since I'm sure someone will ask "what is a meteor cancel?" It's jumping after being hit by meteor smash to cancel the knockback.
