Well so about a month ago (sitting and looking at the systems I had) I said to myself...i'm going to make a bunch of money this spring and buy a computer. Well i'm still working on the money part but I thought I better start researching for the right computer...
Here is basically a quick rundown of what i'm looking for...
Use: Gaming, but still capable of running a few office programs for school.
Space: Looking for arounf 160GB since our current family comp is 80GB.
RAM: Would love 2GB or more but I think I would settle for just a GB.
Graphics card: Well depending on how easy they are to replace...I want a GeForce 8800 series I think...but if they are easy to change out then it can be less...
Price... Well it kinda depends on what you guys give me for recommendos... but really i'm looking around $800-1000 dollars with monitor (still don't know how much my parents would be willing to pay)
So there it is...any recommendations?
so do I.

My computer basically had crap to start out with, and it was around $850. With what you're wanting(including programs), it'll probably cost somewhere around $1300. I recommend you start a job.
So there it is...any recommendations?Yeah, thanks for looking real hard. >:( :P

You thanks for posting...ya seriously I think there are a lot of people out there that really want to a nice computer but don't know where to start.
Don't buy a prebuilt one if you want games. Anyways, my suggestions:
CPU: Intel Core Duo 2, at least 2.2 Ghz
RAM: At least 2GB
Motherboard: Get one with SATA, two PCIe x16 slots, PCI, and SLi/Crossfire support
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT or AMD Radeon HD2900
Sound Card: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer (optional)
Optical Drive: Just a regular DVD-RW drive
PSU: Probably 700W, don't know off the top of my head
HDD: Just make sure it's SATA, I'll leave space to you.
Just don't go overboard on a fancy case. Also, this doesn't include speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse, or OS.

Yo thanks Hiei and LinkXLR...ya I guess i'm going to need a little more money...
Yeah some people were right.
If you want a powerhouse gaming computer, don't buy one.
Make it.
I do not know the names of any special things/parts, but I know what will get the job done.
Processing chip: I'd say 2.2GHz MINIMUM. Over 3 is awesome:)
HDD: SATA 160GB. I think there's a 320GB, too.
RAM: 2GB DDR2 (If motherboard allows DDR2)
Video Card: Not sure, a good NVidia one.
Sound Card: Not sure to be honest. I like the one I have:)
Optical Drive: DVD-RW
PSU: I don't know about this.... mine is lower power consuming though.
Monitor: Meh, a nice 30' would do.
Speakers: I don't know, depends if you'll use it for.
I'm using a computer I made out of a NES right now, and it works nicely for me, but I'm not really a PC gamer, so it's different for you.
go to a junk yard, if you are lucky you may find a computer from the future.
You can get a pretty nice setup for $800.
Probably at least a dual-core processor, 160GB or 250GB hard drive, minimum 256MB graphics card and 2GB RAM, and monitor...for $800-$1000? Sounds easily achievable to me.
That sounds like my computer, expect for the video card. Graphics are the only thing that stop me from playing high-end games. Make sure you get a really good video card and 2 GB of RAM.
