Ok, so I'm trying to get to sleep. It's a stormy night, so there's a lot of thunder. Most of it was just small rumbles....until I saw two flashes in my window. And then...
BOOOOOM!!!!
It was the loudest and most powerful thunder I have ever heard. It shook my house, HARD.
Have you guys ever have a lightening bolt strike within a mile of your house?
I had one strike like... 20 metres in front of me. it was cool (i was on a porch and our cabin is on a lake and it struck the lake by the shore).
At least twice. One was at a nearby school (only up the block then a couple houses over), and a few others this last summer. Boy, talk about the extremes of weather :D
No but I've felt a small earthquake it felt like ive fallen asleep on a vibrator
Again

First morning of the school year, 3am.
That was really odd.
At Scout camp, I was 30 or 40 feet away when lightning hit the pool.
It was cool. :o
that happened to me once, I thought my house was going to asplode.
It was drizzling outside and I was walking home, then lightning bolt bolt stuck. I'm not sure how close it was, but it was less than a mile. And I felt a flash of heat.
Scared the hell out of me because I was 10. But now that I look back on it, it was pretty cool.

Yes, a few years ago at around the first day of summer lighting struck the flag pole of the school down the block. Shook the whole block...
I don't think so, but I know how it feels.
We live near the AFB, so we get a lot of jets flying right over our house.
Sometimes everything in our house shakes because of the jets. Happens more than once each week.
You get used to it.

You're closer than us then, we're like 4 or 5 miles from it.

I have never seen lightning strike, but my parents have told me before I was born lightning struck either the house or a near by tree and damaged the TV, radio and permanently knocked our solar panels offline
The tree in our neighbor's yard got hit, and we thought it hit our house.

10 feet, I win. Freaking eardrum breaker. Good thing I had my big warm hood thing up at the time so it was muffled. It is as bright as hell to. We were in the car driving home when BOOOM! It hit the tree right next to our stopped car. I was shaking for 3 minutes.
Yeah...i've had thunder that loud a few times...It always scares me. :(
Struck a tree outside of our house... screwed up some of the wires in our TV and you could smell heated metal.
Yes, some stuff on my shelf fell off because the thunder was almost earthquake propportions
Lightning actually struck our house. I was really young (maybe 10) and my friend was over and his mom had come to pick him up because the weather became really bad. She and my mom were sitting in the kitchen the lighting and the lightning struck a supporter right behind my mom. All of our tvs are messed up because of it and we had to replace all of our VCRs. Funny thing is my friend and I freaked out and ran into the garage and hugged my bicycle tires thinking it would save us cuz they were rubber. xD
Dude, there was one where it was about 15 miles away, and it sounded like a propane tank exploding.
One took out the roof of the house next to ours. Scary as hell, fun to watch the roof caving in.
yes
i hate it when it happens
a big tree about 10-15 feet away from my house got struck once, and it fell.
the other way. thank god.
and i once was swimming in my pool, when thunder hit. me and my friends frantically got out of the pool and went inside. lightning struck the pool. o_O

i heard of a time a woman was stuck in a thunderstorm when she got struck by lightning and died. how? the metal underwire in her bra attracted the lightning. o_O
I have had a lot of loud thunder here, but from what you told me. I am positive that yours was louder and closer.
