think about it. many people predicted tails, knuckles, shadow, and amy would be playables along sonic. i for one, strongly disagree with any of those other sonic characters being playable. i like sonic as the only rep for his third party franchise. i'm not even sure if i like those characters being assist trophies.

I'll talk using what did Snake said in one fan fiction I've readed a while ago about more Sonic characters:

Tails or Knuckles I think would've been aceeptable, but I'm fine with no one else at the moment. Maybe in the future they could get in, but for the first time, just Sonic is fine.

if they put those guys in they would have had to put more metal gear solid characters in as well. if they really wanted a third party it should have been someone for final fanatasy or even someone like spyro.

No. Honestly, Sakurai had limited third-party spaces, so why would he waste them over-repping the Sonic franchise. I doubt even another Sega character would have made it. There's no sense in giving one third party company loads of representation.
No. Alternate costume for Sonic as Shadow would be kind of cool, but that's it.

I'm a big fan of Sonic, but there definitely shouldn't have been more characters for the franchise. Sakurai should have instead added a character from another Third Party franchise (*coughmegamancough*). Sonic is fine, but Tails should have at least been an AT and Shadow should have been an alternate costume.

I agree... though I wouldn't have been mad if Shadow was playable. :-X Sole reason I got back into Sonic.
Maybe for the next installment but for Brawl, no. As much as I wanted Tails I knew he had no chance nor reason to be on the roster. And I didn't really want Sonic on the roster in the first place.
