Title: Need help unlocking Sonic (What!? No spoilers!)

I am NOT using the SSE method, but I WANT him NOW. I would like to know it's possible that you could beat Classic with 10 characters, unlocking him. Please answer! I am asking if that's the way to unlock him.

Yes, that way works for unlocking him.

Now with him unlocked, this is locked.
