online play is fine. if you think otherwise, nintendo is just getting started with it. you won't find a nintendo game thath has better online than brawl. and don't say they didn't try to make it better, cause they did. they don't have the resources that Xbox (microsoft) has, so it's not really they're fault. Another reason why Xbox's online is so good is cuz they don't have any handheld systems to make games and spend money for. Nintendo still has the DS and rarely the Gamecube (madden 08). and voice chat isn't important to them right now, they're still getting the hang of wi-fi. so stop complaining. it's annoying.

exactly. i notice how people are always saying the game could have been better. the frustrating thing is, no matter how perferct the game is there is always going to be people (*cough-geno-cough*) that criticize the game. Most video game fanatics are spoiled with Xbox live. I don't even have wi-fi at all. having wi-fi and having reasonable gameplay online is good enough for me. i don't need all these extra and unnescessary luxuries that people are complaining about not being in. for those of you who won't stop complaining, you should be thankful they even gave brawl online play. they could have easily forgotten about it, but instead they worked even harder to get it in the game. that's most likely one of the reasons the game was delayed.
well i dont like to complain but it took be like 15 minutes for a coop match with SWW7 that literally shouldve taken 2 seconds to dash off the screen

Brawl Wi-Fi... how can I describe it?
A failure.
It didn't take advantage of the one time in Nintendo's history that it could beat out Microsoft.
It could have been the best Online experience from Nintendo ever.
But it wasn't.
To say they didnt have time or money is complete Bull****. They had over a year, and look at all the fantastic composed music, content, and such?
They are an extremely rich company, and its not like they couldn't have done something big. They played it safe and now we have all these problems.
The servers are crap, the connection is junk, and the overall experience is unsatisfying. Could pay and play fix this? Maybe, but we won't know for some time... all we can do is hope Nintendo realizes its priorities.

Can you see the name of the person you are matched against? No.
Can you communicate in any way, shape or form, even if it's just pre-selected phrases? No.
Can you see any stats at ALL on the person you are matched against? No.
Are there even any records of any random matches? Far as I know, No.
Finally, can you even tell, with absolute certainty, that ANYONE you are playing, is in fact a real live person? No.
I haven't played Strikers Charged, but I've read that even that game had online leaderboards for the random matches, and random matches were based on your stats vs. their stats (meaning, actual records of online matches, even if they ARE with random people).
I'm sorry, but the online mode for Brawl seems to be a step BACK from Strikers Charged. That's not an improvement in my opinion...
Also, what exactly is the point of betting coins on random battles you're just watching? You have NO clue who is controlling each character... Any one of them could be a master, or a first time player, for all you know. And if they all happen to pick the same character, you're pretty much screwed trying to bet on one (for fun I've watched a few battles, and one, I kid you not, was 4 Pikachus).

Metroid Prime: Hunters, Super Mario Strikers: Charged, and MKDS. I don't mind the lack of voice chat in most games but seriously Nintendo intercourse ed up online play with smash.

It's alirght...with Firends. Firends is okay if you have a decent connection, otherwise the online fails massively. Only one game option for online, no names, no chat, NO NOTHING!
Like HTA and Geno said, it was Nintendo's one big chance to prove they're the dominant system, and they blew it. Is voice chat with friends too much to ask for? Apparently so. And don't say they didn't have time or money. Nintendo is the third wealthiest company in Japan, and Brawl got over TWICE the development time than Melee.
Basically, it's Nintendo's unwillingness to do anything. Also, don't use the "free" junk as an excuse. PS3 has free online and that is infinatley better than Nintendo's online. At least we get minor text for Mario Kart...but more people are going to play Brawl longer.
We can always hope for Smash 4 right? :P

And quiet frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the online turned people away from Ninty.
We aren't asking for more more more, we are asking for what was expected and they failed to deliver.
Saying "be glad we got it at all!" is bull*** because it was a given that the game would have Wi-Fi.

What trial and error? Just copy Xbox Live and you're golden! That's what Sony is doing and it works pretty well...

Over 1 Million correct? So this was the big chance, the big show. Did you know that before Sakurai stepped in, Brawl was going to be Melee with Online.
So, now that you get all this brand new content... we still have no online worth using unless you go to a forum etc.
We aren't greedy in the least. We waited 7 years, and we get this.
And Nintendo has had online for what? 3 years?
There is no trial and error. There is Nintendo trying to protect its family friendly image. And in the process, it kills anyone who were serious about Brawl and really wanted a good experience. Nintendo is basically saying why put in the effort when they know the game will sell well.
The problem is we know they can do better, and guess what with Pay and Play on the way it may well happen. But you can;t say anything to make this alright. Its a spectacular game, but the online needs work. Disagree with he last sentence, and I'll know you are mentally unstable.

Oh, and HTA, Skype is an online networking system that uses voice chat. (Think webcam but voice only in a sense)

also, they had geno in the game probably at one point, but geno's company was being stupid so they couldn't get him in. that is believed to be a reason for the first delay.

In case you haven't noticed, the Wii is technologically superior to the origional Xbox (which still has a better online than Nintendo).
The server problems Nintendo's been having is just due to extreme laziness and/or uncaring on Nintendo's part. Apparently they thought they only needed serves to hold all of ten people or something.

On what exactly are you basing these statements? That Nintendo is lacking resources? Nintnedo is a HUGE company, that thanks to the Wii and DS is doing VERY well for themselves. There are a TON of things that they could do with the Wii right now but have chosen not to so far. Just because they haven't done something, doesn't mean they CAN'T.
The DS has voice chat for crying out loud. Are you telling all of us that you think the DS is more technologically advanced than the Wii?
A headset could have easily been made that would plug into the Wii Remote, just like the Nunchuck and Classic Controller, leaving a slot on the back to plug in a Nunhuck or Classic Controller.
Nintendo has FAR more recources at their disposal that you seem willing to give them credit for. And I'd love to know where you're getting these ideas.

That isn't true at all. Nintendo has enough resources to create a decent online experience. It's just they choose not to. Why? Because they don't care about the hardcore gamer audience anymore.

I've never really cared about voice chat myself... It would be cool with people I actually know in real life, people I don't get to actually see that often (getting older's a ninny once you and all your friends get families of their/your own and can't find one day a month to get together).
But, don't really care to with total strangers. I don't need to hear 12 year olds dropping F bombs every two seconds just to sound cool.
But that's why a GOOD online system would, I dunno, allow you to turn that feature OFF if you didn't like it.... And at least offer it to those who DO...

bottom line: Xbox concentrates on online play
Nintendo concentrates on making great games. in the long run Nintendo is better. They just started doing online with the DS and the Wii so they're still working on it.

naryman, nintendo has lots of resources, don't get me wrong. what i'm saying is that xbox 360/live has more online/wi-fi resources (microsoft/bill gates) and that's why xbox has tackled the online factor faster than nintendo.
bottom line: Xbox concentrates on online play
Nintendo concentrates on making great games. in the long run Nintendo is better. They just started doing online with the DS and the Wii so they're still working on it.
I guess "starting out" takes three years then, cuz that's how long MKDS has been out...
More like "Nintendo doesn't give a crap about what gamers REALLY want". Lets see, we get our big three and Smash, still no great online, and now after brawl almost nothing to look forward too X_X;;

You know, this is kind of a pointless thread. I could go over to some scientific web site and post over and over and over again that Stephen Hawkings has an IQ of 2. But you know what? Saying something over and over again doesn't make it any more true...
The FACT is that Nintendo COULD have provided a better online service. They didn't need ANY more recources or experience than they already have.
Voice Chat... Let's see, they have that on the DS. So you CANNOT tell me they can't have it on the Wii.
No mic? Who needs a mic attatchment? The Wii CAN in fact connect to the DS. Use the DS as the mic/headset... You only need one Wii Remote to play online....

Uh...of course people will still criticize it. If you're so defensive that you can't stand to see something criticized when you think it's good, you might as well give up on reviews entirely.
We reserve the right to say whatever the intercourse we want about the game. We can criticize it if we want. And you know what? It's true that it could've been better. So why whine about people who complain about that? They're right.
