Title: Worst butchering of a franchise?
Post by: Tupin on March 25, 2008, 01:23:34 PM
I say:

Every console Sonic game after Sonic Adventure 2.

Every Spyro game not on the PS1.

I also say pretty much every Donkey Kong game after DK 64.

I wish I could name specific games, but these franchises just have so many bad/mediocre games...

I agree with everything in your post, and also Crash Bandicoot hasn't been too great as of late.

They kill off most things with sequels. There's simply too many to decide on a worst one. The game of Pokemon was butchered by the TV show. Most fantastic movies get shot by sequels, and put down to rest after the third movie. Simply too many to choose.
But for the hell of it, Hourglass in Zelda, Hunters in Metroid, and most other widely known and loved franchises.

Windwaker deserves way better.

They should have had the sequel on consoles but different than PH.

Because PH is abysmal compared to Windwaker.

And now that I think about it, the Micro butchered the Game Boy Advances... If that counts.

It looks like Pokemon Farm, which is bad.

The models on it look like something the N64 could handle. I don't care if it is a WiiWare game, they should try harder.

But what can you expect when they need to make 493 3D models?

I wasted good money on Hey You Pikachu. That darned electric poopface didn't even listen to me half the time. It's a cute game, but very frustrating and rather pointless after you've gotten all the areas.

I SWEAR IF HE STOPS TO WAVE AT CHARMANDER ONE MORE TIME...

Also, I think the only series I love that haven't been mostly killed off by now are Metroid and Kirby. Metroid's only bad game recently was Hunters, but that's not nearly as bad as it could be. The Prime trilogy was strong, even with the 3rd being a little lackluster.

Kirby's only bad game was Block Ball. Tilt n' Tumble was almost bad. Just barely managed to be somewhat good.

I'm surprised that no one said Star Fox.

Seriously, an amazing original game on the SNES followed by the N64 hit.  Then what happened?  I have no clue... :(

Maybe if Sakurai stops canceling console Kirby games, they will be good.

We haven't heard anything about it.

It was just the GCN version moved to Wii.

Doesn't bother me too much, considering all the recent handheld ones have turned out quite nicely.

They haven't killed classic Mario. (i.e. Galaxy, NSMB) but they have overused him with side games.

Galaxy was good, but I didn't find it particularly amazing or anything. I haven't played NSMB.

But when you look at how many bad games he's had recently compared to the good ones, it's pretty clear that Mario is a franchise that's never going to be all goodness again.

So much of my time lost to Hey You Pikachu! :(
I always thought that I just wasn't doing it right.

Why couldn't I ever get Pikachu to get the darn vegetables!  >:(

I couldn't even do anything in that game because Pikachu just wouldn't listen.

Sonic is no doubt the worst.

Most franchises wait two or three years before releasing their next "big" title.

Sega whores out up to two sonic games per year.

Yes, I've played them. They taught me to never buy movie games. Ugh.

The Sonic franchise has been really butchered. It started out great in the olden days. Then... What happened?

Also Star Fox. Two great games, original and 64. Then Adventures, which was meh. Assault just sucked. Controls on foot were rather clunky, and it didn't take more than two hours. Then Command. NO COMMENT.

Games that were cartoon first sucks big time (Except the Simpsons)

Why they had to end the Sonic Adventure series? It was the most entertaining of all his games.

Although Assault was fine for me, but, remember, be extra careful on Hard.

I really didn't mind Command.
I prefer the 64 style, but I didn't think Command was so bad.

It was just different.

I didn't mind the new controls. I actually liked it... The plot, on the other hand.... Having branching storylines did not work well.
