Uhhhh.....
Theres always erasing the background but that really isn't all that helpful unless te background color does not appear in the image.
The file type wont change the background >_<

Magic wand tool in Gimp/Photoshop, make sure to add Alpha Channel first.

In GIMP, have your image on a transparency layer (checkered background). Safe as .GIF.

Works for me, always.

OK, I got off my lazy butt and got GIMP.

I have no clue what you guys were talking about.

what do I do with the magic wand tool? I added the Alpha Layer thing, but then what?
