I'm exactly middle tier when it comes to ranking, and I can't do poop about it!
Most of my friends suck ass at SSB, and my 2 friends that are actually good at it, I can't beat them?
Here barely provides a challenge, I'll lose normally, with a win or two every 5 matches.
There's no one to practice on that's my level, and fighting people so much better than you that you can't even get a hit in on them, there's no way to practice!
*cries*
Fighting people better than you, only to get your ass kicked, is an excellent way to learn.
That way sucks.
I'm not ranked, but I have beaten Allegretto(To All, I'm talking about when you first got it, not the gay match) so I would be okay. Probably near the top tier.
Just start getting sucky so you can fight people :P
And what Mackormoses said, learn some of their stategies and see how they work with you.
Last, DO A BARREL ROLL!!!!!!!!!!

Which is how I'm doing it.
No other advice. Sorry.
I don't have a ranking on the ladder but I know for a fact I am better than some people on it.
Get your ass kicked. Learn how they attack. Learn to avoid those attacks. Learn to beat them.
You may not know it, but everytime you play, you ARE practicing! :)
I think we should make an NSF User Tier List, where we rank everyone, but nobody gets knocked off.
You just move up or down based on everyone's opinions.
I know it sounds like the ladder, but mehh.
Being in the top few smashers here, I don't have that problem seeing as Dawei and Playat are all the practice I really need.

I'm fine for now :)
As Mack said, training with people better than you is the only way to make you better.
Or paying me. Some people here will tell you from personal experience how I've helped them improve. :P

It sure is, it sure as hell is.
The more you lose, the more you'll learn from your mistakes, which caused you to lose, and you will become better.
A more detailed version of what Mack said, basically.
Only way to win is to lose.

It wasn't all that bad, I have had faaaaaar worse.
I demand everyone here port forwards now.
I don't play people from here enough to even be ranked, but in all honesty, I'd probably be "middle ranked".
I can destroy certain people here, but I get destroyed by really good people like Darklink, Starwind and Chris.
At home though, I have no friends good enough to practice against, there won't be anymore local tourneys until Summer, and my cousin is the only person who's even with me, and I don't even get to fight him that much, so... :-\

That's another good way to learn. But the best is to battle higher leveled people. Not sure why, but it helps a lot.
