If you've played even half of the great titles on the SNES, you know what I'm talking about. The list of great games for this sexy little beast of a console is astronomical.
It is the king of platformers. The czar of shmups. The emperor of fighters. The Odin of RPGs.
No other console has ever come even close to dominating so many genres at once.
If my SNES was a woman, I wouldn't even dream of sleeping with her because I'd consider myself completely unworthy, a la peasant to Electra.
So, I urge you all to come up with a top 10 game list for the SNES. Now, I know it's hard...with so many amazing games, it's nearly impossible to come up with a list that won't change. Mine changes all the time.
My list:
1.) Final Fantasy VI
2.) EarthBound
3.) Kirby Super Star
4.) Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
5.) Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
6.) Super Metroid
7.) Super Mario World
8.) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
9.) Mega Man X
10.) Chrono Trigger
Runner-ups: Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers, Gradius III, Kirby's Dream Course, TMNT: Turtles in Time, Super Castlevania IV, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Super Bomberman 2, Super Bomberman 5, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble, Super Mario Kart, and finally...Killer Instinct.
Note that runner-ups are not in order. And I have way too many of them.
If there is ever a great Ragnarok between the consoles, let it be known that SNES is probably Odin himself, and will surely be the winner. I choose my place in Valhalla next to the greatest of all consoles...the SNES.

You said everything I felt, basically. Indeed, this is probably the greatest of all the-no, the greatest Nintendo Console, with the best remote, the best cartridges (Sorry CDs, but you're ruined too easily.), and I feel that when Star Fox came out, all the games on the SNES would change, forever. (A strech?)
I've played every game on that list except for Kirby Super Star and Donkey Kong Country 2. But I had 1.
I agree with this thread. SNES is, has, and probably will always be the best system ever.
I like N64 more.

But that's because I've played so many darn games on the system. Apparently you haven't.
I like the N64 too, but I won't kid myself about which system has more quality titles. Especially when it comes to genre specifics. The N64 covers a slim amount of the genres, and especially lacking in RPGs.

K.
SNES Rocks too.
Sadly, I never got to play much of the SNES.
I remember playing some great games, such as, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and Street Fighter 2 (Don't remember much more). Sadly those are the only ones I was able to play that were on your list, except for DKC1 (which I bought on VC) and only one of those was on your Top 10.
I was forced to play my brother's games and I barely remember them, but now that I think about it I remember two more, Bubsy and some weird one where you played as this short little ninja guy.
I can't even make my number 1.
1.Super Metroid
1.Super Mario World
1.Super Mario Karts
1.Star Fox
1.Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past
1.Donkey Kong Country
...I'm not even starting my 2's.
I'm going to put this out there: Star Fox really isn't anywhere near even my top 20.

Man, personally, I was addicted to that SNES game. I played it so much and I'd only play it if I knew I had the time to sit through an entire game. If I didn't.. I made time. Usually I'd get several runs through though. >_>

I guess, for one thing, I've always hated the look of it. Even back then. I never understood where the hype was on the "amazing visuals" at the time.
For another thing, rail shooters in general are not really my thing, unless they're Panzer Dragoon (even then they're a bit dull).
1) ALTTP
2) Earthbound
3) Sim City :P
4) Super Mario World
5) SMRPG
6) Xcaliber 2021
7)Super Ghouls and Ghosts
8)Kirby Super Star
9) Super Mario Kart
10) Dr. Mario

Bolded = Rareware. Without Rare, the 64 would have lost a quite a few great games. The SNES loses I believe 4 great ones at least (DKCs and Killer Instinct). I have to agree with Kaz. The SNES had some of the best platformers of all time (the DKCs and Super Mario Worlds 1 and 2, along with Super Mario All-Stars bringing back Super Mario Bros 1-3 and Lost Levels).

Yeah, me too. I like SNES, but I really don't think it's the best console ever (I think 360, N64, and Genesis or Dreamcast are the best consoles), and I think N64 is the best Nintendo console.
Here are my top 10 favorite SNES games:
1. Super Mario World
2. Zelda: A Link to the Past
3. Donkey Kong Country (DKC2 and DKC3 weren't as good IMO, plus I only played a little bit of DKC2 and 3 and had no idea why DK wasn't in them)
4. Super Metroid (starting to get into it, but I've always been a fan of the Metroid series)
5. Kirby Super Star
6. Megaman X
7. StarFox
8. Super Mario All-Stars
9. Earthbound (once I play it)
10. Yoshi's Cookie
So yeah, I don't want you to get angry. I like the SNES, but like Triforceman I like the N64 more.

Yes I agree that Shujinco should buy Galaxy. I haven't played it in a while (got stuck at the Freezeflame galaxy), but it's probably one of the best Mario games there is.
But I am going with the crowd putting Earthbound on my list even though I haven't seen any gameplay videos of it and haven't played it. I just heard it was really good. However, a lot of kids in school said they loved the movie Talledaga Nights, but I hated it.

Talladega Nights sucks.
As for EarthBound, I'd really recommend trying it before putting out an opinion on it. It's definitely a love-or-hate situation, because the minimalist graphic styles (especially in battle) are a real turn-off to some. Others just don't appreciate the quirky humor, music references, and silly representation of North America. Many simply find it boring because it's a "set in the present" RPG.

That's why I like it.
Every other RPG I've played either is set in the medieval ages or in some fantasy land.
The reason it didn't sell well in America was because no one really cared about JRPGS until Final Fantasy 7 came out.

Yes I know TN sucks, but I'll have to play Earthbound first and then I'll see if I should put it on my list. If I don't like Earthbound, then I'll only have 9 favorite SNES games.
YES! SNES IS BY FAR THE BEST!

Secret of Mana is extremely hit-and-miss. It's pretty cool, but on the other hand, I could never get used to the battle and inventory systems very well. I like it, but I don't like it a lot. But then, I haven't played it a whole lot, so I probably just need to play it more to get used to it.
I actually think the best systems are N64, 360, and Wii. 360 has all the greatest shooters, Wii has great games but I love it for the experiences I have with it, and N64 has my 2 favorite games ever made: Paper Mario and Banjo Tooie, and alot others
here are my top 10 of the SNES.
1. megaman X
2. super mario world.
3. F-Zero
4. super mario all stars.
5. top gear
6.monopoly
7.TMNT- Tounament Fighters
8. Kirby dream land 3
9. Donkey Kong country
10. Mario paint (because the mouse didn't work)

Wii has POTENTIAL to be one of the best systems ever...quote the POTENTIAL. It's no where lived up to the game hype it gets X_X;;
360 isn't even in the top five dude. Greatest shooters? ALL IT HAS IS SHOOTERS. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but there isn't anything I can't get on the PS3 (including Bioshock...HA!).
It's either SNES or N64 IMO...since all ports that both systems had were pretty much the same while the exclusives were FANTASTIC in terms of the good ones.
Not for me, but I do find It the best for myself right now, I still have some others in tie, I'm kinda tired to list but I liked most RPG's on it, SMRPG, Earthbound, and chrono trigger just worked out...So great...
This thread is making want to just buy an SNES off eBay so I can play SMRPG and Star Fox again without roms. D:
Well, it's kinda hard. But I did it. :P
1. Super Mario All-Stars - 4 awesome Mario games in one! OR 5 if you got the one with Super Mario World!
2. Zelda: A Link to the Past - Best. 2D Zelda game. EVAH.
3. Donkey Kong Country
4. Super Mario RPG
5. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - LOVED IT. :)
6. Star Fox - 3-D OMG. :P
7. F-Zero - Awesome racing game.
8. Super Mario World - Another awesome Mario game. 3 was better, but that's not a SNES game. :P
9. Super Mario Kart - Good racing game. Not as good as F-Zero, but good.
10. TMNT - Turtles in Time - It's the only Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game I have, but it's pretty cool!
I cannot make my own list Kaz because I completely agree with yours. I probably would have said the same game.
It is the best system ever made, after all.

360 is the best console currently on the market, and it's one of my top 5 consoles of all time. It has excellent graphics, online service (even though you have to pay), and games. And it's not only shooters. There are also a lot of sports, RPGs, and music games too, plus you can download classic games and arcade-style games from Xbox Live. I mostly bought my 360 for Bioshock, Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, Sega Superstar Tennis (just to kick everyone's ass on XBL using Beat and Ulala), Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and a poopload of Xbox Live Arcade and old Xbox games.
