The best I ever got was an A, but I came in first every single race. so how do you get stars?
Here's a list:
- Finish the cup with 60 Points (6 wins in a row)
- Stay in first place during each race for the longest possible time
- Your ranking drops if you're hit by an opponent (Their vehicles or their items)
- Your ranking falls if you drive off the track, crash into damage, or take damage from beasts

We'll say that you have to finish as fast as possible to avoid all of it.

None are better than others.
Whoever your best with is basically the best choice.
Although, the light characters with motorcycles are pretty decent I suggest them/

Question: how do get a boost at the beginning of a race and do you have to finish a lap at 1st place?

to get the beginning boost you have to hold the A/2 button right when the 2 (from 3,2,1,GO!) is about to disappear.
and i don't think it matters what place you finish a lap in.
