We just got a letter in the mail saying that now we will need a cable-box to view the Sci-Fi channel as well as some other ones. What the heck? Now we have one cable box, but this means we can't watch it on any other tv :|. Anyone know how to wire the cable-box so that you can connect to more than just the tv it's set to?
You need a dual receiver Cable box to use 1 on 2 TV's.
You might be able to wire it off with a splicer that turns 1 jack into 2, but then you wont have different control on the different TV's. In other words the channels will always be the same on the 2 TV's.

I use it too.
Technically, everyone in the US has to have a cable box to recieve any TV at all by February 2009...so it's good that you got it.
You can splice the actual cable to go to other rooms, but you won't get the features of the box in those other rooms.

...darn. I thought the thing needed before Feb. 2009 was something else. So even if we where to do that, we wouldn't get the channels on the other tv's? >_>

Do any of your TVs still use antennas?

Wrong. Since all signal is being changed to digital, you need a cable box, OR a HD TV.

Make it like red or something. That's not much better.

I don't think so. but i was referring to getting the Sci-Fi channel and such after they make it box only. (I was just stating that i didn't know that the box would also fix that little issue). So, if we do splice the cable, would we get the channels that would otherwise be unenviable on the non-cablebox tv's?

changed color....again >_>
*doesn't like using red though, so teal is here instead*
I have Cablevision as well, and we spliced it so that I can get TV without a box in my bedroom. I get only the non-digital channels (like up to 70-something) on that TV while the TV with the box gets all those crazy multi-hundred channels.
I don't get why you didn't have sci-fi though. I've always had that, even with just regular Cablevision (when that still existed) and then with iO.

Wrong. Since all over-the-air broadcasts will be digital, you will either need a digital converter or a DIGITAL TV. You don't need an HDTV to get digital broadcasts without any conversion.

We currently have it on any tv, but today we got a letter in the mail saying that on June-something it will be a cable-box only channel >_> From the sounds of it, our set up is basically the same as yours, except we don't have the wire spliced. (i could be wrong though about that)
Ok nvm, because of talking to my brother about this, he explained that this plan would not work. thanks anyway though
