Title: Stepmania Discussion Thread
Post by: RedYoshi on May 05, 2008, 07:08:12 PM
I've decided to create a thread about Stepmania/ DDR or any other type of dance rhythm game. Before I say anymore and to avoid some questions, I play it using the keyboard and I've only played Stepmania 4.

Anyway; In this thread you can post anything that has to do with Stepmania or DDR. I'll try to answer any questions you have and I can give out a couple of really good stepfile links if asked.

Who has an FFR account?
I'm better at that then Stepmania for some strange reason. I don't have the newest Stepmania yet though. I only have 3.9

I have Stepmania, but my computer's so poopty it won't even play that. I have most the DDRs for PS2, but none of the pads I've ever owned have lasted more than a year, and before anyone says I haven't been taking care of them, lemme tell ya: I HAVE! I'm planning on getting a couple of Cobalt Flux metal pads for the DDR Club I'm starting, and using those since I be in charge of them.

I have an FFR account. We should have a match sometime! FFR is easier if you ask me. The meter is more lineant than the stepmania one.

I used to have Stepmania but I had to delete it to free up room on my hard drive D: Small HDD's FTL. Only 30 gigs I think.

Have you checked for viruses lately. I'm just asking because cluttered hard drives can be a sign that you have a virus.

I was wondering for those of you who play Stepmania what key configuration do you use and how is it set for example:

Left z Down x Up . Right /

That's the one I started to use but I still seem to do better with the arrow keys.

Any suggestions?

I use two hands on the arrow keys.
The left hand's middle and index finger for left and up and the right hand's for down and right.

I've started to do that. I guess I'll just have to keep practicing.

Only SM4? Yu should try 3.9 and use some of the themes and noteskins for it, you'll like it much better trust me.

As for me, I play spread. df is left middle and left index, jk is right index and right middle.

I do think I'm the best KB player around here.. but on pad...

I have both Stepmania 4.0 and 3.9 I'm still not sure which one I like better. I like how 3.9 allows for many themes, noteskins, etc. (unlike 4.0 which seems to have problems with that since 4.0 has some kinks that need to be worked out) On 4.0 I really like the default noteskin because the different colors are solid making them easy to read.

I also tried 3.95 but the online in 4.0 is so much better.

All you need to do is download it, you don't even have to copy songs if you just link the folder to 4.

If you have 4.0 or 3.95 all you need is the server address you don't have to download SMO.

Mine is...
FGHJ
In order from left to right, like Guitar Hero on the comp.

I use the arrow keys, one-handed.  I suffer on some streams that are heavy on up-down switches and long streams amid long up or down holds, but...it's the way I learned how to play.

I do spread. DFJK. Left Down Up Right. Obviosuly trills on both hands are harder, but its easier than on the arrow or similar key config.

I play spread as well. I use zx./ for left down up right.

I prefer the home row. Easier to use with my handrest. Though i'm changing from having my wrists on it to having them susppened over it, it's been helping with jacks and jumpstreams.
