Title: The Underrated Power of Link
Post by: QingXin on May 11, 2008, 06:09:51 AM
Hi, TamJammerz here :)

So we all know about the fact that people prefer Toon Link over Link, right? NOT ME... I absolutely hate Toon Link. I don't play with him anywhere as well as I do with Link o_o I'm sorry for Toon Link lovers, but I just can't seem to grasp him.

I prefer Link because of his arrows, Down Air (The controllability (?) of Link's Down Air is nicer than Toon Link's...), his boomerang (Nice for combos), Back Air, and Neutral Air. I use many combos with Link, as Ridley would know (Link > R.O.B... No foolin'), whereas when I try combos out with Toon Link, they either never connect or get disjointed :|

I think it's just me not playing Toon Link how he's supposed to be played, or because I play as Toon Link too much like Link, but nonetheless, I prefer Link over Toon Link.

Anyway, here's some tips I have for Link for those to-be Link players.

- Back Air is a beast. Combo it up with a Neutral Air or Gale Boomerang after unleashing it to really piss off your opponents :P

- Don't spam Down Air. If you do, stop playing as Link. Use it only when you see an opening :P

- Bombs are Godly. Bomb drops can be useful to catch people off guard. I usually do a Footstool jump, throw a bomb down (it'll most likely hit, because of the frames the opponent gained from the Footstool), and combo it up with a Down Air. People get impressed if you pull this off :P

- When ledge hop recovering with a strike, make sure your opponent's not too far away, or you'll leave yourself wide open. Try ledge hopping and firing off an arrow to make your foe lose balance, then recover if necessary. Gale Boomerang can be a substitute for this too. Only do a ledge hop Down Air if you're garunteed a hit... Never do an Up Air in this situation, Just don't...

- When intercepting a recovering opponent, try not to use Down Air. If you miss, you're done for. Try for a good Back or Forward Air, making sure that you DON'T fast fall. Bombs and the Gale Boomerang are nice for this purpose, too, especially if your intercepting while hanging on a ledge :P

- Dark Link is a beast.

- Remember, Link has an auto-shield when he is standing still on level ground from projectiles (In your face, R.O.B.!!!).

Go Link!!!

Link Sucks now :(
And I used to be pretty decent with him in Melee.
Stupid Gale Boomerang.... ruined it.

TL is quiet possibly Top Tier, and I am much better than him than with Link really.
Whatever you say, Link did get nerfed pretty badly, especially the air game. He's a lot heavier and his aerials seem to have a lot of unnecessary lag, IMO.

And any good player can dodge projectiles,. and the Bomb drop Down-A is such a spammed combo its hard to not see it coming :p

However, Ill have to play you to see... TL > Link and TL's B-air is possibly one of the best air moves in the game.

They just made Link short hop too much and screw his Spin Attack. Other than that, he's still an excellent, underrated character. I like him, but I prefer Toon Link.

Anyone can spam thier side smash and win easily.  :-\

Link's fully charged side smash does 44 Damage.

and Link's final smash is way better than Toon Link's.

Being a Link Veteran myself, I think Link improved a bit.

The gale boomerang can set up some massive combo's.

So yes, I agree with you TamJammerz.

The only good thing about Toon Link is his amazing taunt

Not the one with the Windwaker, the one where he flails his sword around a lot.
I wish that did damage.

Go Link!!!
O_o we should be friends

I absoultly hate using toon link, link is the best!! My main and will always be, toon link is to cartoony for me, and his moves are to.....barbaric
His down air is awesome.

I took down Rayquaza just by using his side smash.  :|

There's a difference between Link and Toon Link's Final Smash?

Yes.

Toon Link's has a shorter initiation range, does less damage, and shoots the person high up.

Link's has long range, does 20% More damage, and shoots the person more horizontally.

Toon Link is overpowered, IMO. He should be as weak as Metaknight if he goes that fast =/
