Title: So I guess that means Kojima's officially crazy.
Post by: Riosan on May 23, 2008, 03:16:33 PM

MGS4 will apparently have 90-minute cutscenes. Let me reiterate that. Multiple cutscenes that are as long as a feature film.

The article says, The good news is that you can now skip or pause the scenes. Hands up though, how many of you are actually going to sit through the full 90 minutes? As you'd expect, you'll spend a lot of time watching cut-scenes, so if you found previous games' story exposition laborious, then you'd better find yourself a nice cushion and plenty of teabags in readiness for MGS4's.
They can be skipped, but you'll be missing out on some of the finely crafted examples of FMV footage anywhere in gaming.

So there we go. Film-length cutscenes in a single video game. How 'bout that, folks?

Just ONE cutscene is 90 minutes?

No WONDER he said that one Blu-Ray disc was too small.  :|

Maybe he's doing this in preparation of the Metal Gear Solid movie.

Just ONE cutscene is 90 minutes?

More than one is 90 minutes.

That doesn't mean all the cutscenes combined is 90, they are 90 minutes EACH.

I thought MGS was cutscene heavy before.

My god. I couldn't imagine it on the 360 with all those cutscenes.

How high was he when he thought of this? This better be a joke, because playing the game will take a long freaking time.

Or perhaps someone got their facts mixed up?

Quick, someone buy PSW Issue 108 to see if it's true.

You'll face enemies like this GIANT ENEMY CUTSCENE, a battle that actually took place in ancient Japan

Who has the patience to sit through all of that?  I can barely make it though a SSE cutscene without skipping it now.

I honestly couldn't see myself playing through MGS4 more than once without skipping every cutscene.

I'm still excited for it, if they're good cut scenes I have no problems waiting 90 mintues.

I have no problem with story progression, but a 90 minute cutscene is ridiculous.

It should be 15 minutes at the most.

Why put limits on things? They're probably at the begining, middle and end, it's not like they're going to come up after every hour of gameplay... Well, I hope not.

It better be at the beginning, middle, and end.

If not, I will seriously question Kojima's sanity.

They're probably absolutely amazing to be 90 minutes long.  All the more reason to check this game out.

I've always liked story more than gameplay when the gameplay has to be based on the story.
Confusing, no?

Nevermind, read the article.

I guess it gives them a chance to boast 80 hours of gameplay or whatever.
...If 10 of those hours are cutscenes.

My god. I couldn't imagine it on the 360 with all those cutscenes.

It would probably need 5 or more discs.

Listen, just go to the movie theatre, buy some popcorn, the hook your PS3 up to the projector and relax for a featured length film

Kojima wanted to be a movie director when he was younger. This is simply more evidence of that fact.

That's crazy. I guess that would be cool. I mean they are probably going to be pretty awesome.. but wow. I think they are going to have to be way good to be able to pull that off successfully.

That's why Snake's so old in MGS4:  it's a secret warning of what will happen to you by the time you finish the game.   :D

hm, my friend bought it the morning it came out.  He said the cutscenes were "good."  Not very descriptive at all, but we were pressed for time when he showed me the single blu-ray disc.
