First, a little background.
Sonic X-Treme was a game developed for the Sega Saturn using a "Reflex Lens," which gave a fish-eye type look. However, the engine that Mike Wallis made wasn't working out and he had a deadline to make.
During this time, he looked at what Sega of Japan was doing. He noticed that they were making the original NiGHTS, so he did what he felt was necessary for the good of his game and asked Sega of America for the game code and dev tools.
When Sega of Japan heard that he was making a game using their engine, they were furious and made them stop. They sent over Sega of Japan's CEO and gave him two concepts of the game, and he liked the version that they just started on.
Chris Coffin was given permission to make the game, and development of it almost killed him, as he worked 20 hour days and literally lived in his office, and he also developed a severe case of pneumonia. The other person making the game, Chris Senn, fell seriously ill and was given six months to live.
With this pressure, and the deadline just two months away, Mike Wallis canceled the game. Two known prototypes exist, one of which sold for $5000 on eBay. The game was 60% finished.
Here are some images, and two videos available to the public from the auctioned prototype.

Wow, that was a very serious work that gave illness too, and living in the office? Totally crazy.
From the first video, it looks horrible o.O. The ground was intercourse in' breathing.
But the second video looked cool. I bet it would've been an awsome game if it was finished and didn't have breathing floors.

Both of the producers almost died.
It's a good thing the game WAS canceled, they both would have died if they kept making it.
Both of them are still alive, and one of them is programming the rest of the game on his own time.
It's too bad they got ill and couldn't finish it. It looked like a good game.
Saturn only had 8 good games: NiGHTS into Dreams, Sonic Jam, Sonic R, Bug (if you don't know what Bug is, it was a game about a bug that went through 3D mazes. I didn't get to play it much though), Shining Force 3, Megaman 8, Rayman, and Radiant Silvergun. (Sonic 3D Blast was OK, but it was better to get it on Genesis than on Saturn) If this game was completed, then there would be 9 good games on the Saturn.
And the reason why I didn't put Panzer Dragoon on my list was because I only played Panzer Dragoon Orta and I didn't like it, only because there was no way to beat the first boss. The dragon was too slow and I constantly got shot down by the airship. But maybe Panzer Dragoon 1-3 are good and PDO just sucks. I'm not sure.
Don't think I ever heard of this one.
However, wasn't there another Sonic game that was either for the Saturn or the Dreamcast that never came to be? Sonic World, maybe? :-\
