Title: How do you kill a hanging process in Vista?
Post by: Rayquarian on May 30, 2008, 06:05:55 PM
Pretty much every program hangs at one time or annoying, and it takes too much patience to restart my computer, especially when another program hangs right after reboot.

Oh, and please don't give me any anti-Microsoft stuff today.  I'm not in the mood.

Define "hanging". Do you mean Zombie or something? Not responding and won't close?

If you just keep on ending the process, it should eventually go away. If it's simply on the task bar and nowhere else, then just keep closing it. I have to do it with Warcraft all the time.

I closed the application window, but the process won't go way, so I can't re-run the application.

Ah. One of my friends told me about this. One, the program is badly programmed, two, you're going to basically have to keep on ending the process/process tree until it goes away. Might take 5-10 minutes, but it will go away.

What programs are doing this?

Ctrl+Alt+Del>Start Task Manager>Processes> Then select and end the problematic one.

That works, if you know which one it is.
