Ah...Remember the good old days of 2D, where the controls were so simple? Run with B, jump with A, move left and right and crouch, and for the SNES, Y to run, B to jump, A to spin-jump, and Up to look up. It's so easy to play 2D Mario, but we always have a challenge in these games. But now we have 3D Mario, Party Mario, Mario Kart, Mario Sports, and crappy spin-offs that don't exist.
So what's your favorite Mario game that goes back to the sidescrolling glory of Mario? It has to have Mario as a playable character, though. And I exclude Super Smash from the list, alongside Yoshi's Island.
I love Super Mario Bros. 3. It's my favorite 2D game in the Mario Series, and one of my top 3 favorite Mario games. It's not easy, but not as hard as the original, it has some of the best Power-Ups in the series, and memorable tracks. Not to mention a sadistic stage, known only as the Sky World.
Super Mario World is the best 2-D Mario game
Yoshi's Island was awesome though! And it was still simple. Run, jump, eat, spit, crouch, throw eggs. :P
But my favorite is probably Super Mario Bros 3. Catchy music, my favorite 2D Mario sprite(I didn't like Mario in Mario World), and awesome power-ups!
super mario world was cool.
but I have never beaten the game.
It hard to get rid of bowser.

I understand. It took me a while to beat it...

I have not played it, sadly. But you play as Yoshi...
Yes, SMB3 was/is awesome. The original, in my opinion, had better Music than the remake.
I think it would ether be SMB 3 of Super mario world for me :)
Super Mario World probably.
I also likes Super Mario Bros. 2 (American version). I liked the different style.
Paper Mario 2. I'm breaking the rule a little bit.
Mario World followed by Mario 3
They were easy to pick up and play, but really hard to get everything in. I miss games like that. Mario games are too freakin easy these days.
Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World. Both were awesome games.
