I vastly perfer manga, actually. Expensive though.
Yay for Meitaneti Conan.
Depends. I liked the NGE anime more, but I like the FMA manga more than that anime.
I haven't really gotten into manga...I'm new to being an American otaku (as in a person who loves Japanese stuff, I guess that's a good definition of an American otaku), and even watching anime religiously has been a big change...I was in a bookstore last week and I was browsing the manga aisle at a distance, kinda incognito. Still seems foreign to me, pun intended.
Neither. Anime is the sucky thing on TV and manga is the sucky thing in comic form.

You do know that Otaku is negative, yes? Regardless, I would describe myself as a Onna Otaku...
Manga can be harder to get into. Like Anime, there's like fifty gazillion differnt series, also like anime, it can be hard finding the good stuff.
I'd stay with the more familiar series (FMA/Trigun/FLCL/Kenshin) until you feel brave enough to jump into lesser known series.

I read the Wikipedia article about what otaku means and I'm still fine with the term. By no means do I deserve the positive aspect of it, though, I'm still a freaking anime noob D:
The thing is, my parents have no clue that I like things remotely related to this, so watching anime on the Internet isn't such a big deal but since my mom does notice when I buy something (because I don't buy much :P) it would take some uncomfortable explaining >.>

Not trying to deliberately advertise, but if you want, bleachexile.com has a whole bunch of manga series that you could read online, so it's a good alternative to buying manga. I use it a lot, because like you, if my parents asked me what manga is, I would explain it to them, and they'd give me a "wtf" look.

My parents accept it as a genuine intrest of mine, although they were afraid when I started buying manga ages ago. They got over it when they noticed my grades didn't suffer.
What have you seen?

I tried it out...it's very inconvenient to read it like that, but it's pretty good quality.
both are kinda fun. I like manga just for the right-to-left format. :P
I enjoy both about the same. I also like going back and seeing the anime or reading the manga of a series I finish. It's nice to see what changes are made or just a different art style perhaps. A nice example is FLCL. I've got both the anime and the manga, and the manga doesn't follow the anime completely (or vice versa). It made it that much more enjoyable to read.
Hmm... I say I like both. I only have a couple of Mangas, but they're pretty good. I also watch A LOT of Anime. :D Bleach is one of my favorites. :P I'm even planning on my own Manga/Anime. :O
I prefer Anime... I can't get into Manga like that, I just don't like it.
And I can't really watch Anime like that either, my aunt, uncle, and cousin think I'm weird enough for liking DDR >_>;
Manga Manga Manga.
Forever.
I prefer anime over manga, but I still like both.
I actually prefer light novels over the graphic novel manga...
