Title: Animal Crossing and the NES games
Post by: Lotos on July 04, 2008, 11:26:41 PM
This can probably go in Legacy, as it is subjected on the NES and Gamecube, but I picked Nintendo because I thought of Animal Crossing first.  Also, I have to thank Lavamania for giving me this idea by making a thread on him ranking up to an Excite Bike.  In before Tuppy's obligatory post, as it's an AC topic.

Have you got interested in a series/NES game from those NES games in Animal Crossing for the Cube?  Even if you owned a NES as a child, there must have been a game you did not own that you found in AC, or since a parent might have sold your/the family's NES at a garage sale before you were old enough to appreciate it (MOM.  Just because we got a SNES, that wasn't a reason to sell the NES D:?), or if you just got sent back to your childhood in a finding.

Excitebike, obviously is one of the ones I'm interested in, as I mentioned it.  It was great for a sidescrolling racing game, especially since it was on the NES.  No items.  I don't recall different classes, just courses, so it was just your strategy of avoiding the mud, picking which ramps/obsticles to use/avoid, and when to stop turboing with the B button because you were about to overheat.  I guess I gotta try Excite Truck and Excitebike 64 now :P

Balloon Fight is the other one.  I had DK Jr. Math, but that wasn't all that fun :(  Anyway, I loved the concept of popping the balloons of the enemies, avoiding the flippers, along with not landing too long (as the enemies could come near you, even on ground) and careful manuvering in fear of getting one of your precious balloons popped.  The lightning added to the challenge, along with that fish in the water.  I sucked at Balloon Trip.  It took me a while to even figure out the GCN equivalent to the select button.  I couldn't get much a higher ranking than about 32.

Amazing that I was able to make a post this big, on a Nintendo topic too.  I feel like an Oldsider sage from that post D:

Ah, the memories.  Your turn NSFCD :)

I never owned Animal Crossing on the GCN (only on the DS), but I played it at a friend's house.

I'm pretty sure we played a couple of NES games (which they should totally bring back in the Wii version), but the one I remember the most was Balloon Fight. That game was so addicting! I had so much fun with it.

I didn't really have that many. The only one that interested me was Balloon Fight. It was cool, but I would never pay to get it. :P

How did you get the NES games?

Did you have to buy them?

No, they were special items that you got by entering codes at Tom Nook's store as well as during special events.

Occasionally you would find one buried.

Balloon fight is very similar to an old arcade game by midway called "Joust" (it's been ported to pretty much every popular console at least once) I suggest anyone who likes Balloon Fight to try it.
