Title: Now that I have a PS3...
Post by: Friendly Hostile on July 06, 2008, 07:40:23 PM
...does this mean I get to be an elitist prick or something?

But on a serious note, suggest me games that aren't FPS (unless they are actually something new and original and not another generic WWII or Halo wannabe) or sequels (unless of course the sequel has nothing to do with previous installments, since if it's a series I like, I'll know about a sequel already and will more than likely buy it).  I already have GTA IV and MGS 4, though so far I'm focusing on GTA and saving MGS for later, however some other games suggestions would be nice.

Resistance is pretty good, and its origional (its actually like Gears of War in FPS view)

Drake Uncharted Fortune or whatever has the best graphics on the PS3 and it was supposed to be really good.

COD4, thats a given

Assassin's Creed is also a given.

and Battlefield: Bad Company is pretty good and an origional FPS.

Sonic Next Gen is only 20$ so give it a try, its not bad

But whatever you do, dont get Motorstorm. It looks nice and is fun to play for a bit, but there are very little tracks and the all seem the same. Wait for the new one, that should be better.

Games to look forward to:

LittleBig planent - looks pretty schweet

Resistance 2 - is probably better than resistance 1

SOCOM Confrontation - All SOCOM games are good.

Call of Duty 5: World at War - looks great

Street fighter IV - defnately worth it

The fact that you just listed mostly generic FPS games means I have to ignore you now.  How sad :(

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is a great racing game, along with GRID. Both are pretty realistic, even the F1 racing game Formula One Championship Edition is great.

Warhawk is a multiplayer only third person shooter where dogfights are a major part of the game.

Overlord is a Pikmin-esque adventure game where monsters do your bidding.

LEGO Indiana Jones is an interesting take on the series, and is very fun.

Also, there's LittleBigPlanet to look forward to.

MGS4 guns of the patriots.

It's semi FPS. But it's mostly stealth. And you can go into third person view instead of first person :)

The PS3 version of Overlord was given alot of a better score from the 360 version because it is upgraded

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is also a given. It got a general 9.7/10 ish area and was the best game on the console up until GTA4 came out

Yes, it is a great game.

As is LEGO Indiana Jones. It's like LEGO Star Wars, but with over 65 playable Indiana Jones characters, plus Han Solo and Santa Claus. It's more puzzle based than LEGO Star Wars, though.

I know it's actually a sequel, but I still have to put in the good word for Oblivion.  It's a fun, high polish game with a lot of depth.  And it is not short in any way, shape, or form.  It is huge.  And the open world sandbox "do what you want how you want to do it" isn't just one or two side missions.  The only thing you really have to do is the main quest, but you can do it at any time.  There's really no rush.  You can do a main quest, then spend the next few days just doing guild quests, exploring dungeons, random NPC quests, or anything else you have a hankering to do.

Plus its got that great GTA go crazy element.  If you get frustrated or just need a break, you can save your game and go crazy; Loot towns, kill gaurds and noblemen, and go crazy on NPCs just for fun.

Oblivion, Game of the Year Edition if you find it, since it has Nights of the Nine and Shivering Isles.
Burnout Paradise is good.
And... Well, you said no generic FPS's, but CoD4 is really above the rest, and at least worth a rent.
Also, depending on what games you like, you may want to look into Soulcalibur IV.

CoD5 isn't generic. MoH and Socom are.

Oh and SFIV/SCIV.
