Why do people care what it says? It is just a decoration!
They thought it was a key to unlocking Luigi... it had an L on it too...
it had nothing on it!
Yes it did, the plaque had an L and a code on it if looked at from not too far or too close. People are experimenring with it... :|
Kay, so it might have looked like that, but what if you had a program that could sharpen the image, what would it say?

Thats kind of what I meant when I said "not too close or fsr away" :P
It says the code and L when sharpened. Google it if you want the code...
What i saw was l and one day before the release date of paper mario.
Ugh, it's a freaking rumor to unlocking Luigi, which is impossible to do in the N64 Version. It's dead, and disproven.
There was a similar rumor to unlocking Waluigi in the DS version, but it met the same fate as the N64 Rumor.
I never noticed it before...
i know, but all i wanted to know is why people still care.
I don't remember anything like that... super mario 64?
Somebody explain!

the star statue in the court yard say or apparently says "L is real 2401" the L=Luigi, and the 2401 is the amount of total coins or something people thought if you get all the coins you unlock Luigi, it is of course false
Also, there's that same sign in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Here's a link to show the two pictures are similar.

That sign reads,
"Giant dead Dodongo...
when it sees red,
a new way to go
will be open."
What does this mean? I don't know. But it's pretty interesting.

that means you drop bombs in the giant Dodongo skull, it eyes will turn red, it's mouth will open, allowing you to go deeper in to the temple

...I know that. But is there some other meaning behind it?
Someone once did a very detailed study on that and concluded it's "Toadstool 1981" with parts of it missing in a strange font.
it works. I think he used Comic Sans MS and erased some parts to come close.
Based on the Ocarina/M64 comparison, it looks like it's just a plaque design that can be pasted into various 64 games for making level design easier. Text was probably intentionally made illegible/gibberish, knowing then they could slap whatever they want on it when the character reads it.
Like how Pokemon G/S borrowed sprites from R/B. I think.
