Title: My thoughts on the Sony Conference
Post by: DBY106698 on July 15, 2008, 01:23:24 PM
Shocking, isn't it? NSFCD's Mr. Nintendo, DBY, watched the Sony Press Conference. And here are my oppinions on it.

Overall I think it was impressive, but a little misleading at times. The mentioned many times about having the most system exclusive games, and they showed clips from all sorts of games. The thing that gets me, is that they actually showed, IMO, very few exclusive games. For example, they showed various fotoball games, an NBA game, mentioned Smackdown VS Raw, mentions Guitar Hero and Rock Band, showed Tiger Woods, and a few others. I seriously doubt any of those games are exclusive to Sony. And not many of those are really worth bragging. I dunno about you guys, but the yearly Madden football and other sports games were never really important to me.

I was rather impressed with the games that they did show that were Exclusive to them. the latest Rachet and Clank looks interesting, God of War III trailer was impresive, Infamous looks fun, and  was in awe at the trailer for MAG. The PS3 has a lot of power to it and does have some pretty great looking titles coming up. Resistance looke dinteresting, though I'm trying to figure out how the human in the demo could survive being thrown through 2 windows, soaring through the air for another 10 seconds or so, smash through another window, slam into the wall in a building, and still get up like "I'm okay, let's go blow this monster up!" So much for beign a "realistic" game.

My big thing though, is that they seemed to focus too much on games that don't matter or shouldn't be focused on cause they are on every system. It's like "OMFG! A LEGO BATMAN PS2 BUNDLE!!!!!!!" So what? By now everyone has PS2 and why buy the system to get the game with it when that game is literally on every platform? Same goes with Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and the sports games. I'm also nto very impressed with the Grand Turismo TV thing. Great, it's your 24/7 Car Informercials. But from the dream car topic on NSFCD, I'm willing to bet that has a lot of you muscle heads excited.

Overall it was entertaining and they incorportated a lot into their nearly 1 hour 45 min conference. (Atleast that's what I believe it was). I noticed they didn't want to thank Nintendo for starting them in the business 15 years ago this week that they mentioned before. I mean, if nto for Nintendo Playstation would not exist. Do your research if you don't believe me. I also found it interesting that the PS2 is selling nearly as much as PS3 and that they have similar goals for next year, PS2 at 9 mil. and PS3 at 10 mil.

Now the question is can all this new stuff they are introducing really save the PS3 from the rough start it's had?

I was also impressed with the conference as well.  Many of the titles shown got me pumped and the new features were really good.

R2 was amazing in the beginning.  As you said, falling through 2 windows, soaring in the air and slamming onto the ground is a bit...impossible for a human to survive, which doesn't make it very 'realistic", but who cares as long as the game looks amazing. (Both in gameplay and graphics)

GoW3 was...breathtaking.  Since I'm in love with the series, I just had to mention that.  Even from watching that teaser, I can tell it WILL be amazing.  I mean, it's God of War, even the title should hint of a great game.

MAG looks like a game we'll all be playing for a long time.  256 players, am I right?  Yea, that's...a lot. O_o  Can't wait for this one.

Overall, it was impressive and interesting.  I think it was the best out of all 3 conferences in terms of games and whatnot.

Sony's was full of poop.

"We're not interested in filling up our store with games no one will play just to say we have more games"
-Bullpoop. PS2 had more crap than a intercourse ing sewer.

"Sony is the only company with 3 successful products in the market" or something like that
-Nintendo has Wii, DS, and GBA

Lots of overgeneric games, shovelware, and crappy names for games. The only good thing about the conference was using LBP for the sales data. Even then, boring.

Oh, and I found that Lee dude annoying.

I have but a few words to say.

God. Of. War. 3

anddddd

MAG. 256 Players. 8 Player Squads. 1 World.

______

Now that I'm out of my WOW state..

@ DBY, uhm yes, it'll save them. If they market it right, the 80G at 400$ is a great deal imho, and with the greatest hits out, not only will they be selling more PS3's, but more games since they're lowered prices, like Motorstorm, Assassins Creed, et cetera. I think the PSP, was also well featured with a decent amount of games, overall it was fun. It can only get better with the other games coming out really soon, this holiday season looks to be good for Sony and early next year will be even better.

Yeah, Nintendo started Sony becuase they wanted a system that can play Discs to compete with Sega, but later dropped it because of some misunderstanding and things they didn't agree on, but Sony wanted to finish it off to show what they could do without Nintendo and then the Playstation was born. WHy credit Nintendo, they gave them a good start, but Sony has done much on it's own :)...sure thye may have got to it sooner or later anyway xD

That made me even more hyped for LBP.

Plus, there's going to be Greatest Hits on the PS3 now.

I was very happy with their press release.
Yea, the PS2 stuff was complete bullpoop. And I really couldn't care less for the PSP stuff...

LittleBig Planet looks like THE SHIT. I can't wait for this game to come out. This is going to absorb my life when it does.
Resistance looks awesome, and am so getting a new headset for this (yes, I STILL haven't gotten a new one). Oh, and he can get thrown that far cuz he's infected by the chrimeran virus (as seen in Resistance 1) so he's like superhuman.

I'm also really excited for DC Universe. That looks really fun! Like City of Heroes, but plays well and is on a console.

Three big games I can't wait for, and the DLC stuff looks promising as well.

Kratos is out for blood next year...and I cant' wait.

I find it interesting that LittleBigPlanet is NOT actually the first game that lets you adjsut, create, play, and share levels. Infac,t one was created a supe rlong time ago on the Internet and was featured on Newgrounds for the longest time. However, I think this it the 1st one to make it to a console. Even I think it looks rather entertaining, but I sure as hell am not ognna fork out $400 for a PS3 jsut for that game.

As for why Sony should credit Nintendo? Because if not for Nintendo, Playstation would not exist. The head of Sony was dead set against entering the Video Game market. He wanted ntohign to do with it. But after everything that happened with Nintendo, the guy who was head of the Playstation team talked the big boss man into it.

Finally, wasn't Kill Zone 2 like.. released already? Or are they taking THAT long to make the dang game? Like seriously, Kill Zone 2 was mentioned in the PS3 Song (AKA: How to Kill a Brand) and that's been out for a hell of a long time.

What surprised me is that I WANTED to sit through this conference. I figured I'd change the channel a few minutes into it, But I was surprised how they did it.

Also, they had a nice way of showing the charts, lol.

I hate to sound rude, and this may be surprising since I'm often dubbed the "Nintendo Fanboy" by Lava (though I think he needs to rethink who he calls that name to now as I believe someone else has clearly taken that title from me). Anyway, This topic was created to discuss everyone's oppinoin about the Sony conference, not if the GBA is still selling. If ya want to fight about the GBA and stuf flike that, take it to another topic. I put some decent effort into making this topic without bias and I don't want it ruined by a stupid arguement.

In short: GET ON TOPIC OR GTFO!
